Pastor Gary Randall is an anti-gay activist best known for his efforts to keep Washington’s gay citizens despised, feared and second-class under the law. Today he can’t put down his bloody anti-gay bludgeon long enough to effectively play the downtrodden Christian martyr.
In a blog post today, Randall attempts to make Christians (a massive numerical majority in the United States) appear to be the objects of intolerance because Miss USA contestant Lauren Ashley is being criticized for championing a biblical verse that says that gays deserve death. In going to bat for Miss Ashley, Randall defends what he calls the “biblical morality” she espouses. Let me remind you what she said last week:
“The Bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman. In Leviticus it says, ‘If man lies with mankind as he would lie with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death and their blood shall be upon them.’”
From Randall’s point of view, if I disagree with someone who says that I should be executed because I’m gay, then somehow I’m being intolerant of that person’s religion. The kind of tolerance Randall is looking for leads to violence. Should I condone my own execution? Randall apparently thinks so.
Randall sickeningly ended his post with a plea for donations to what he calls “this ministry“. He is using his authority as a Christian minister to broadcast to the world his certainty that I and every other gay person deserve death. When will the press and general society stop giving people like Randall a pass because he calls himself a Christian and a pastor and uses nice words like “faith”? Let’s recognize his words for what they really are: a condoning of lethal violence against gay people.
All this comes from a man who is pushing a lawsuit before the United States Supreme Court claiming that people who supported his anti-gay Referendum 71 campaign will be harassed and intimidated if they are not given a special exception to Washington’s campaign disclosure laws and allowed to hide their identities. Well, he’s done an excellent job demonstrating what real threats and intimidation look like by condoning the death sentence for gays and saying that anyone who disagrees is showing “perverted tolerance”.

Bible on Beauty QueensIt strikes me as funny that the religious right wants to use beauty queens to represent them. Nothing against parading around mostly naked in front of a crowd, but it doesn’t really sync with most of the Bible. Like here, from St.Paul. 1Timothy 2 9-11…
You see, both the fabulousness and the speaking out are not the model of Christian womanhood. They should choose a plainly dressed woman who prays a lot to keep silent while the men speak. That’s what they do in church.

The Bible says no such thingOk, for the last time you stupid bigoted f*cks- The Bible does not say that marriage is only between one man and one woman. Most notable characters in the bible had several wives, concubines, and/or slaves for sex. Not exactly ‘One Man/One Woman’.
All Leviticus forbids is m/m rape (it was common at the time to humiliate enemies by butt-raping them). Leviticus says NOT TO BUTT-RAPE. That’s it (and good advice it is, too).

Which rewrite of the bible is he referencing?I understand that the old testament was put to rest with the crucification and became nothing more than a history book. Leviticus was written for the soldiers of Jerusalem. The new testament is supposed to be the living bible.
The bible keeps being reinterpeted and bears little resemblance to the one the churches were supposed to use. There was no reference to homosexuality in the bible until it we rewritten in around 1955. The interpetation came from a word used three times in the original edition and referred to long flowing robes, and that interpetation stood in two of the three places. Why they misinterpeted it here is either an oversight or an intentional mistake to further the hetrosexual agenda.

Pastor Gary’s wordI’m no bible scholar . . . I’m not even a Christian, but what I learned was that Leviticus is a 3000 year old holiness code written for the priests of Israel only. (Leviticus also prohibits playing with the ‘skin of a pig’ . . . pigskin! football!!) Jesus and Paul both said the holiness code of Leviticus does not pertain to Christian believers and it certainly doesn’t apply to non-Christians. If Gary insists on killing, he’ll have to limit his blood-lust to the priests and clergy of the Christian faith. He could even dig up quite a few dead popes and ceremoniously ‘execute’ them for their violation of the priestly code of behavior.

i attended catholic schools, where (naturally) we studied the bible, both old and new testaments. i was taught, by nuns and priests, that the new testament superseded the old testament, as far as christians were concerned. hence, the old testament dietary prohibitions didn’t apply to us, etc.
perhaps pastor randall needs the services of a rabbi, to explain to him the differences between old & new testaments, since he seems clearly confused.
