I thought failed presidential candidate Sen. John McCain was going to have to face a serious challenge this time. Sadly, his opponent in the primary, former congressman J.D. Hayworth, who has ample issues to run on, chooses to go on Hardball and make a freeper *ss out of himself. What’s amazing is that Chris Matthews gives him an out to say he’s not “as far right as the birthers.” Zoinks!

“Well, gosh, we all had to bring our birth certificates to show we were who we said we were, and we were the age we said we were, to play football in youth sports…Shouldn’t we know exactly that anyone who wants to run for public office is a natural born citizen of the United States, and is who they say they are? I’m just saying the president should come forward with the information, that’s all. Why must we depend on the governor of Hawaii?”

Creepy! We saw this last night and it was my first introduction to JDH- gah, he weirds me out big time.
I suspect, Pam, that for this election cycle we are going to need to expand and differentiate the batsh*t crazy tag into separate sub-catagoriess, if we have not already done so:
1. Birther
2. Teabagger
3. Hears Voices
4. Hears Voices and Listens to Them
etc, etc.
Invincible American IgnoranceOkay, here’s the question: is this dude a liar or just ignorant? I suppose he could be both.
Americans in general probably don’t know that you need your birth certificate to get a passport, and so this dipstick gets to play fast and loose with facts and fool his audience
Obama traveled abroad way before he was President or even Senator. Ergo, the State Department approved his proof of citizenship. End of story.
But it isn’t, because American ignorance of the world around us grows and grows and grows, and these people can take advantage of it.
CREEPY IS DEF. THE WORD… this guy is VERY creepy, has a ODD look (bad plastic surgery? Brow lift? …..where do these weirdos come from..
Sigh.Quite often from Arizona, I’m sorry to say…..
Watch him with the sound offThat’s a very revealing thing to do because you catch people’s affect.
His eyes are angry and don’t match the fake smile.
That’s (in part) the creepiness people are responding to.
Welcome to Arizona! The population here has significantly dumbed down since the Oklahoma City bombing which arguably was planned here. We also have the distinction of being unable to pass proper anti-polygamy legislation.
I know this guyJD Hayworth used to be my state representative (I live in Flagstaff, AZ). He’s a pompous ignoramus and former TV sportscaster. I don’t think reporting on football games is good training for higher political office. Luckily, my state legislative district was redrawn and now we are represented by a progressive Democrat, Rep. Tom Chabin. (Flagstaff is known as the “Berkeley of Arizona” although it’s all relative.) Unluckily, the morons in Scottsdale made him their Congressional representative a few years back.
The right wingis terribly fond of the Founding Fathers. They never stop bleating about “original intent” and so on. But all you have to do is read a high school history book to realize that even the most reactionary of the Founders (and there were some doozies) would have been completely mortified at the realization that dimwits like Hayworth are their political heirs. Anyone who doesn’t think this country is in steep decline is kidding himself.
No way he’ll unseat McCainThis guy is a douchebag. I live in the district he used to represent when he was a U.S. Representative. He was rated one of the least capable representatives in Congress. He got voted out in 2006 even in a heavily republican district.
There is no way he will beat McCain. He won’t be able to raise anywhere near the funding, and the majority of people in Arizona don’t have sufficient animus against McCain to vote for any other person just to get him out of office.
