Some bigot in Augusta, GA has decided that the black man has stolen the game of basketball from him and turned it into a sport of savages grabbing their crotches. So he’s forming a league to save the game.
The All-American Basketball Alliance announced in a news release Sunday evening that it intends to start its inaugural season in June and hopes Augusta will be one of 12 cities with a team.
“Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league,” the statement said.
…Don “Moose” Lewis, the commissioner of the AABA, said the reasoning behind the league’s roster restrictions is not racism.
“There’s nothing hatred about what we’re doing,” he said. “I don’t hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here’s a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.” Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of “street-ball” played by “people of color.”
“Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?” he said. “That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.”
Now I have to admit that I’m no basketball fan, but I hardly imagine that there would be any fans in the stands (unless they were in trench coats) if it was a free-for-all of self-fondling on the court.
Second, how do these bigots verify “race,” for instance, if the person can conceivably “pass?” Does an octaroon make the cut, or is that too black?
The would be the first thing I would do to corrupt this preposterous jackassery and send someone who could pass for white to try out for a team.

He’s going to scream from the top of his lungs this white separatist racist dogma “They want let us have an all white basketball team” (which is basically what he’s trying to do anyway atleast he’s not subtle with it). And they will come and the numbers will grow. This is NOTHING BUT a recruiting tool for the KKK, Aryans, Nazi lovers etc.

Hey, I don’t care that they only want whites, just like I could care less about blacks having things that are exclusively black. But this particular issue appears to be some kind of stunt because there is no way that this is something that could succeed. What’s next? An all black ice hockey league?

Gee wonder if someone started the Augusta Hispanic soccer league would this raise the same Racist remarks.. Of course not, because repressed folks are the only ones who can do this….

I need to point this out…This is not a bigot in Augusta doing this.
This is an Atlanta-based league. They have their sights set on Augusta, and the reason this was reported is that Augusta’s white Republican mayor, Deke Copenhaver, politely told the group to get bent, go to hell, and die, in his nice mayoral way.
I live in Augusta, and believe me, half the people here are still fighting the Civil War in their heads, but in this instance, it didn’t start here.
Deke is actually one of those mayors who, in a racially divided city, is fairly beloved across party and racial lines, because he’s a good guy.

I love hockey!Growing up in Detroit, we had the benefit of tuning in to the CBC, so I grew up watching Hockey Night in Canada every Saturday Night (it was also a special treat when the Guy Lafleur, Ken Dryden, Scotty Bowman-coached Montreal Canadians came on…usually, we got Toronto Maple Leaf games.
My stepdad once took his 2 knucklehead sons to a hockey game at the old Olympia Stadium (and, yes, we were the only blacks in the crowd that I could see). We actually witnessed a fight break out in the stands between man and wife about two seconds after a fight broke out on the rink…

I agree that Deke is a good guy.I live just over the border in SC. A few years ago an interfaith group got together to build a Habitat for Humanity house. He spoke at a fundraiser that was held by the group — Christian, Jew, Muslim, Unitarian — and it was clear by what he said that he got it. With all the race based bickering still going on in the County Council, its refreshing to see him rise above the fray.

When I was a kid The Old Man would watch Black Hawk games on channel 9, but only when they were playing a team they had a blood feud with, like Detroit or Boston. And he was really disappointed when they actually played the game clean and proper and weren’t beating the badword out of one another.

AgreedI grew up a couple hours from Augusta. It’s not a bad city at all, and there are some really marvelous people there. Unfortunately, as with anywhere, there’s some real pieces of work.
I sometimes look at the Augusta Chronicle‘s website to see what’s going on, and I can always count on the comments sections of any article to make me groan. No matter how innocuous the subject, you can bet a foodfight’s gonna break out. And if that’s not enough fun, the Chronicle‘s own editorials are so right-wing they’d make Attila the Hun sound like George McGovern. Here’s a rather ripe one I still remember all these years later:
