Now didn’t I tell you that CharMeck County Commissioner Bill James was a low-life, stone-cold homobigot? He’s corresponded with me delivering his sick, homo-obsessive emails since 2005. His level of hate rivals Fred Phelps – it’s even worse that he’s an elected official who wins time and again in the fundie church-laden 6th district without opposition.
His fellow County Commissioners approved same-sex domestic partner benefits 6-3 on Monday, and some like Commissioner Vilma Leake delivered personally emotional remarks in favor ot the measure — she cited her late son, who had died from complications of AIDS. The cruel James leaned over to her (with a hot mic broadcasting) and said “Your son was a homo, really? When Leake heard that, she replied: “Don’t make me hurt you. Don’t do that to me. Don’t talk to me about my son.”
Naturally, people have called for James, a completely, pathologically homo-obsessed man who focuses on sex acts using his County email to apologize. I laughed at that, knowing if he said anything at all, he was going to send out an e-blast statement. And lo, and behold, FoxNewsCharlotte received a missive that is pure vile James to the core, comparing homosexuality to alcoholism and slamming his colleague on a personal level, including charging that Leake was “threatening” him in her above reply:
In the statement, BJames says:
“Vilma is a religious hypocrite.”
“She was married to a Bishop in the AME Zion church. This church has historically opposed homosexuality.”
“In justifying her position last night in public she used her son’s ‘lifestyle’ and his death from HIV-AIDS to justify voting for benefits to allow individuals to use tax dollars to engage in the same behavior that resulted in her son’s death.”
“It is akin to someone whose son is an alcoholic and died from the disease, using his death from drinking as justification to have the taxpayers pay for more booze.”
“Her position was that her ‘faith’ demanded that she do this to support her son and his ‘lifestyle’ which she acknowledges killed him.”
“In doing so, it is legitimate to ask her what ‘lifestyle’ and in particular whether her son was a homosexual. Her response was to threaten me with physical violence (typical for her). Of course, this isn’t the first time she has threatened elected officials. On the School Board she had a long and checkered history threatening to harm those she disagrees with.”
“Well, if she didn’t want to make her ‘son’ an issue – why did she use him, his lifestyle and his tragic self-inflicted death from AIDS as the reason for her vote?”
Sometimes you just don’t believe someone can be this sick — and he’s re-elected to Mecklenburg’s district 6 time and again. Imagine a district full of Bill James clones. Heaven help you if you’re black or gay there.
Feel free to drop Bill a line (he’ll like write back with some screed about felching and anal sex):

Screw Bill… Thank Vilma!I think Vilma Leake deserves lots of thank yous from all the people who appreciate her honesty, bravery and stand for equality. When Ruth Hassell-Thompson made a similarly brave speech here in New York during the marriage equality debate, her office was flooded with messages of support. I think Ms. Leake deserves the same.
Vilma Leake: 704-336-2088 or vilma.leake@MecklenburgCountyNC.gov
I think it is time to begin a campaign against the straight lifestyleBlogs, websites, candidates for political office, all hammering time and again just how dangerous, filthy and unhealthy the straight lifestyle really is: rape, divorce, sexually transmitted disease, abortions, unwanted children. We need charts tracking the burden that spousal benefits place on employers, and how this burden has negatively affected the economic recovery of our nation. We need spreadsheets showing how much federal money can be saved by not extending housing, PX and other priviledges to spouses of military personnel. We need discussion on how to properly deal with children, the most visible consequence of the straight lifestyle.
Any suggestions on what Scriptures can be used to turn this into a holy crusade?
EmailSubject: On how to be a decent human being
After referring to someone’s dead child with a pejorative, even if you honestly didn’t know it was a pejorative until after you said it, you simply say you’re sorry.
Try it.
– Christopher
Fundementalism is like alcoholismA crutch that is addictive, something that destroys your thinking.
Good news: it can be cured.
No one is born fundie Christian, it a moral failing and a choice.
Even now, we are lobbying Obama to establish FEMA re-education centers run by panels of wise same sex married Latinas.
well…What have we here? A religious bully and a twisted bigot who isn’t ashamed and won’t apologize. So demanding a feeble apology won’t work this time?
What to do with degenerate scum like this?
If he won’t play nice, we don’t have to either. Organize. Protest. Call him up. Get him out of office. Don’t let this county’s “decent Christian” constituents forget that this is a man who openly gloats to a mother over the death of her son.
Oh man, I like this ideaOur own SCUM Manifesto.
My Letter to Bill James:I have been alerted to a vote in Mecklenberg County that occurred on Monday whereby the County Commissioners approved same-sex domestic partner benefits by a vote of 6-3, and before the vote, a number of Commissioners spoke about the bill, including Vilma Leake, who spoke about her son who had died from complications of AIDS, whereby you leaned over to her and said to her, “your son is a homo, really?”
The word “homo” has been used countless times to describe gay people in a derogatory and dehumanizing manner, and a reasonable person would regard this word undoubtedly with a negative connotation. Pejorative words such as “homo” and “faggot” are commonly used by school children and teenagers in bullying and harassing other children and teenagers, and as a result, LGBT children/teenagers are four times as likely to consider committing suicide because of the despair that comes with living in a hostile environment. Your use of the word “homo” appears to legitimize this slur and related bullying, and the victimized children do not deserve to suffer from this unnecessary harassment as a result.
In addition, when a mother talks about her son who has passed away because of a disease, a reasonable person would honor and respect the grief born from the loss of a loved one that is painfully relived through the rehashing of this dark memory. Your comment to her lacked any honor towards her family and exuded a reckless ignorance with respect to the use of pejorative words. I believe that a reasonable six-year old would have responded to her with more tact.
Afterwards, you spoke about Vilma and her response to your comment, whereby she said, “Don’t make me hurt you. Don’t do that to me. Don’t talk to me about my son.” I understand your concern that threats of violence are inappropriate. That said, understand that what you said to her in all likely probability hurt her dearly, and she did not deserve the pain that she felt by your words, whether you intended to hurt her or not.
More importantly, in your response, you spoke about her son engaging in behavior that resulted in his death in conjunction with comparing her son’s “lifestyle” to being an alcoholic.” I believe that you are making a dangerous statement that may adversely affect many innocent lives.
The HIV virus is spread through the transmission of blood and semen from one person to another. Any kind of unsafe activity that results in this kind of transmission will result in someone becoming infected with HIV. Being gay by itself does not guarantee the contraction of the HIV virus; engaging in unprotected, unsafe sexual activity whether gay or straight will dramatically increase the chance of becoming HIV positive, and using protection will dramatically decrease the likelihood of getting this disease. This is proven scientific fact. I sincerely believe that your statement indirectly confuses this truth and could mislead people towards believing that being gay causes HIV and being straight will not result in getting HIV. Misinformation and lack of education is a significant factor towards the rise in HIV infection rates, and it is paramount that society appropriately educates all people young and old about sexually-transmitted diseases towards mitigating and eventually eradicating these diseases.
A City Commissioner should represent all of his or her constituents, and if a Commissioner doesn’t fully understand some of his or her constituents, then the Commissioner should do his or her best to augment his or her understanding towards better representing those constituents. Based solely on your actions above, I can sense a multitude of harm arising from an indirect false sense of security within straight people who may not believe that they can get the HIV virus just because of who they are, an intensified adversity felt by gay people born from misunderstandings about the HIV virus, and hostility and despair felt by LGBT children and teenagers augmented by the legitimization of charged words as weapons of harassment. I believe that this kind of malfeasance would adversely affect the community and therefore sour a Commissioner’s ability to adequately perform his or her duties. In short, I am not sure that a reasonable LGBT citizen would feel safe living under your jurisdiction, and short of actions to counter this dealt harm, I would not be surprised if such malfeasance would be grounds for reconsideration of the current make up of Commissioners in Mecklenberg County.
PardonBut other than the fact that it came from a known anti-homo, why again should I be offended?
Why is homo a pejorative?isn’t that technically what we are? Shouldn’t we be reclaiming this word for ourselves or is it only vicious words like queer and faggot that we need to own for ourselves?
Doesn’t that seemed kinda fucked up?
it isn’t automatically a perjorativelike any word, it is how it is wielded and by whom and in what circumstance.
1 John 4:20-2120 If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
21 And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother.
A WarningI have “crossed swords” with Bill James from time to time over the last ten years. He is indefatigable in his hatred and obsession with homosexuality. If you decide to contact him and go one-on-one, it will be akin to Br’er Rabbit and the tar baby: you’re going to get nastiness all over you, and he enjoys it.
Methinks he doest protest too much, or else he is envious of the attention that Fred Phelps gets.
You’re being much too nice to himAnd I suspect his reply to you will not be very nice at all.
sure…Sure, I’m all for reclaiming derogatory terms, but I think “homo” is largely understood, currently, to be a pejorative.
Goodness. The anti-gay comments on the Fox Charlotte story are not dispelling any myths about education and gay acceptance. ”Pengilum”? ”FREE SPEACH”? “Ignorance in a wide variety of ignorance”? The less you know, the more you hate.
Not sure how that is anti-straights… but how about…- the infamous proverb re: spoil the children
- the various forms of infidelity and/or polygamy and its consequences among straight people in the Bible – starting w/ Abraham, Jacob, King David (yowza), King Solomon, Hosea’s unfaithful wife
- unmarried sex with someone of the wrong tribe is really Samson’s downfall (well, that, and he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed)
- Salome’s passion for John The Baptist (and her flirtation w/ her stepfather) gives Herod impetus to kill him
- a boatload of others…..
While I think he should at the very least apologizeits sad to see how fully this one bigot has co-opted the discussion of what should be a victory celebration.
Homo, Fag, Queer, Cocksucker, all used interchangeably.
He won’t even take the time to read all thatseriously.
He will skim it and send you a canned evil response.
He is not about reason or intellect, but the opposite of those.
All slurs are the same!Whether it’s ‘homo’, ‘ni**er’, ‘g**k’, ‘wetb@ck’, ‘fa**got’, ad nauseum — they’re all slurs, Phoenix.
One of my favourite quotes is this (and I’ll use the words in the clear): “I’ve been called a faggot and I’ve been called a nigger, and I can tell you the difference in one word: none.” – Mel Boozer
Mel was the first man of African heritage do be nominated by a major American political party, the DNC, at their 1990 Convention.
you know what just occurred to me?the only word in your list that doesn’t require the replacement of letters with symbols for the sake of decency is “homo”. i guess we’ll know we’ve reached some level of basic humanity when people in general realize that they have to type “h*m*” or tra**y”. this is not a comment on your or what you said, but rather a comment on where i think we as LGBT are in the pool of acceptable public bigotry.
I would like to commend the lady for her self-restraintShe didn’t actually strike this orc, now did she?
great effort; remember other vectorsBlood, semen, pre-ejaculate, vaginal fluid, breast milk. Important to always include the vectors specific to women so that the dolts understand not only is it not a gay (men’s) disease, but it is not a men’s disease. All sexes and sexual orientations are vulnerable.
That evil little monsterNeeds to get kicked out. Fast.
I appreciate……this man’s forthrightness.
If only the Rick Warrens of this world were as honest about their feelings, we would all be better off.
The devil does less damage naked than in designer suits.
You’re right!Lurleen, you’re 1000% right! I shoulda done that and wasn’t thinking as per usual.
grrrrrIf I was the lady, I would’ve sttod up, scream “How dare you call my son that!” and decked the toad.
and if I was herI would have replied to him, “You’re an a@@hole, really?” PUNCH!
I would say the lady showed exemplary restraint, all considered.
Odium duum metuant.
No.These people are born into fundie families and indoctrinated as children. They’re brainwashed early before they even have a chance.
I want to comment on this
Who the fuck is any white person (much less this Carolina cracka) to lecture this black woman about what her religion and her spiritual beliefs require of her as far as the treatment of her son and loving her neighbor…
correction“any white Christian person who espouses this religious bigotry”
It’s not anti-straight.It’s anti-bigotry. These so-called “Christians” who denounce us and hate us and wish Pure Evil upon us: that is who this passage is talking to.
Not that they listen, because they’re cafeteria christians: picking and choosing what they want to accept.
*noddy*You’ve dealt with him too, then?
“Christians are Predators!”No one of us could attend a commission meeting and utter similarly offensive statements about Blacks, nor Religions, so why should Bill James be allowed to do so?
The Commission must hear that these comments are indeed offensive and not to be tolerated.
