This is a delicious win after a string of high-profile defeats for the LGBT community at the ballot box. Annise Parker, the best qualified candidate in the Houston Mayoral race, having been in public service as city controller for years, was elected on Saturday after a campaign rife toward the end with the expected negative homophobic, desperate attempts to keep the fourth largest city in America from electing its first openly gay mayor. Savor the win, Annise.
Parker will be Contessa Brewer’s guest on MSNBC at 2:00 PM ET.

UPDATE: The White House Press Office announced that on Sunday President Obama left a message with Houston Mayor-elect Annise Parker to congratulate her and to note that he looks forward to working with her. White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett also spoke with Ms. Parker this morning.

Congrats to Annise Parker, and to Houston…For proving that hope lives everywhere… Even in Texas.
Amazed that there is only 1 postof Congratulations. I’ll admit before her election I thought of Houston Texas as living in Tom Delay’s biblical bronze age city using the law of Moses and the ten commandments in their courts. I am delighted that I have been wrong.
Charles, you must have missed the earlier discussionThere was a lot of discussion and celebration on the original post announcing her win a couple of days ago.
Thanx JosephineI should have looked back. This is a more than a milestone.
