Honest to God, these birther conspiracists have no synapses firing at all, but they have enough money to burn to pay for a full-page ad in The Washington Times. This bit of business was purchased by ProtectOurLiberty.org. Hey – nice touch with the monkeys…not.
The hardly intelligible ad copy claims that under a 60-year-old British law, President Obama is a citizen of Britain and “is currently also a British protected person and/or a British citizen to this day.” The Center for American Progress’ Ian Millhiser points out that if this rule were actually applied to the presidency, every foreign nation would have the power to remove the President of the United States simply by granting the president citizenship.
The website promoted by the ad is run by Charles F. Kerchner, Jr., a plaintiff in a birther lawsuit filed against President Obama in New Jersey.

How Can a Person who is Born a British Subject be Considered a Natural Born Person of the USA, you Say?Well, there was George Washington. And Alexander Hamilton. And Thomas Jefferson, and B. Franklin, et al, et al.
True, although…Good point, and an excellent thing to throw in the Birthers’ faces, but strictly speaking the Constitution was written specifically to allow such men to serve:
In the unlikely event that any of the Birthers actually know the Constitution well enough to know this, the strategy could backfire. (On the other hand, I could be a too-worried pedant — something I wouldn’t at all rule out.) My approach for dealing with them is usually to ignore them and hope they’ll go away; debating them on the substance probably just legitimates them.
The stoopid it hurts. Why do we have papers supporting this garbage?
Hey morons the civil war was over a century ago, you lost. O was elected in 2008, you lost.
Wait. What?I think I get the part where wacko right-wingers would assume the father’s citizenship trumps the mother’s. After all, she’s only a woman. But how could they allow another country’s laws to trump ours? Why, that’s defeatism! It will lead to one-world government and the black helicopters!!!11!!1! And it’s communist too.
Oh hell. Why do I bother trying to figure out wingnut logic?
well, there’s also the caveatsF’rinstance, John McCain, I mean the third of that name, the one who wanted to be the 44th President, was born, IIRC, in Panama. Navy brat, and all that, but would we be having birther conspiracies now over that? If in the alternate-history world he was president and Vice-President Half-Baked Alaska were in charge?
Its the Washington Times, and its viewpoint is subsidizedRemember, the newspaper is owned by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church.
According to former editorial editor Richard Miniter:

They have principlesAnd if you don’t like them they’ve got others.
The right wing seems to be entirely now about scoring “points” against various and conglomerate enemies in their eyes. If they can piss off a liberal, a woman, a black person, a homosexual, an atheist, etc… they score a point and win. Their long term plans are to make enemies suffer (to prove how not on the Devil’s side they are when the Rapture which is any day comes) as much as possible and what they say they care about usually is a combination of projection (I’m just worried about Obama taking away rights of white people, homosexuals will invade our churches and ruin our marriages) and whatever focus tests the best for their ambitions (we really really care about fetuses so much, despite not supporting anything that actually reduces abortions in actua, supporting lots of legislation to punish sexual women and women in general, and encouraging the deaths of every group other than fetuses with a song in our hearts and hell, we’ll also support restricting medical access in general which also harms fetuses).
They really don’t care, because it’s all a game to either run out the clock until The Rapture (for the footsoldiers in Teabaggerville) or to ride a gravy train of free cash money (for their leaders who get crazy rich off their donations).
There’s also the huge bonus that gets everyone fired up of making your dick feel nice and big to go crush someone weaker than you or to dominate someone else’s life and happiness. In an uncaring and chaotic universe, it can help delude someone who doesn’t actually do anything to make this one life we have better into believing they are the masters of the universe and thus matter somehow.
Frankly I prefer fighting for good for that feeling, but obviously if that was the most popular, we wouldn’t be having these endless battles against the banality of evil.
To quote a saying I picked up in the Navy…They have the IQ’s of empty beer cans.
Seriously, the stoopid is so profound it just has to hurt.
YawnWe still have laws on our statute books in the UK from the 1600′s but that’s not saying they are active laws. If it was so every man in the UK would have to practice his archery on the village green after attending church on Sunday.
Just because the British Nationality Act 1948 still exists does not mean its current law. when you look into it, the British Nationality Act 1981 is the current UK law and replaces the British Nationality Act 1948.
However much I would like Obama to be a UK citizen the truth of the matter is he has far more of a claim to Irish citizenship via his mother than the UK.
So I guess the right wing nutters had better move onto the next straw they are clutching at to subvert a democratic election.
It is possible to be a British Subject and be born in the USA.For example, if one or both of your parents are British citizens by birth, naturalisation, adoption (by a British citizen) or registration, you are eligible to claim British citizenship. Whether or not Obama qualifies under one of these I do not know – he may do through his father, who was a British subject at the time of Obama’s birth (Obama was born in August 1961; Kenya gained independence in December 1963) and may have been able to claim citizenship as a result. Either way, whether or not Obama is a British subject is completely irrelevant to the discussion being born outside the UK does not preclude anyone from being a British citizen.
James CookSince James Cook “discovered” the Hawaii’an islands and since the islands never were an independent nation and since the islands were never an American territory and since Obama was never born there and the papers carrying the announcement of his birth and since Hawaii is not a state -
OK I get how it could happen
Or at least how it could happen in a strange universe not associated with reality.
Haven’t these idiots ever heard of dual-citizenship?It is possible for a single person to be a citizen of more than one country. The United States Constitution does not require that the President be a citizen ONLY of the United States.
How is this issue important to our fight for equality? Obama is just another bigot who opposes Same Sex Marriage and whose DoJ supports DOMA and DADT with vile slanders about GLBT folks.
Obama is just another bigot who’s in bed with scum like Warren and McClurkin and who thinks that appointing one or two homosexuals who use their offices to fight GLBT equality and an Easter Egg roll will make up for it.
Obama is just another bigot who’ll sign things like the hate crimes law (if it’s tame enough) and then use the opportunity to pretend that he’s our ‘fierce defender’.
Obama’s just another warmonger who’s escalating the wars to steal oil and murder GI’s and civilians.
Obama’s just another union buster who steals from workers and the poor and gives to the rich.
Why would anyone support a bigot, a union buster and a warmonger, even a “lesser” bigot, union buster and war monger?
I know these people are sensitive about . . . . . . implications that they’re stupid. But shouldn’t they be used to them by now?
If this logic is applied universallyMy father was a dual Canadian/Austrian citizen, and both of my maternal grandparents were dual citizens of Luxembourg/Germany or Canada/Germany.
But that’s not how it works. Both parents are/were U.S. Citizens by virtue of the fact that they were born on U.S. soil to parents legally and permanently residing in the U.S.
My grandmother retained her Austrian citizenship until shortly after the outbreak of WWII, but that’s a story for another day.
THAT’S ENOUGH! I’VE HAD IT!
I’m going back to Remulak. Not even the beer or the fiberglass here are worth this crap.
But rememberEarth Girls Are Easy!

Yeah! Sue the bastard!I would so love to see these eejits make it to a courtroom. And I’d be sitting there with a stopwatch to see just how long it would take the judge to laugh them back out into the street. After paying all the court costs of course.
