Next week, there will be a “challenge” to the new lgbt-inclusive hate crimes bill recently signed by President Obama. The “challenge” is being led by the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission:
On November 16th, CADC, along with other pro-family leaders and ministers, will go to Washington DC for a Rally for Religious Freedom. It will occur immediately in front of the Department of Justice.
Ministers, from various denominations, will preach the truth of the Word of God, especially the “politically incorrect” truth of the sin of homosexuality! We will challenge U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to charge this group of peacefully assembled clergy with a hate crime for simply preaching the Bible.
We will clearly establishing that this law cannot and will not silence God’s servants. We will continue to declare the whole counsel of God both publicly and in our pulpits. If we are arrested, we challenge the law in court.
This bold, public stand for Christ and freedom of speech will cost thousands of dollars. We need to pay for permits, rent a sound system and generators. We will need to send out press releases and get the word out to as many pro-family leaders and ministers as possible. There will be travel expenses and we also need to cover our ongoing overhead.
For those who need a reminder, the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission is that group which defends churches trying to exorcise lgbt children.
It's that same group which defends anti-gay hate groups run by discredited researchers who accuse gay men of molesting children and wallowing in feces.
In short, the CADC is a colossal joke.
And that is how we should treat its protest.
Hate crimes legislation protects free speech and religious freedom. And I don't think that the CADC or any other group who will participate in this protest are actually dumb enough to advocate violent action against lgbts.
At least I hope not.
What CADC and the other groups are doing is ridiculous grandstanding.
However, I think that these groups are attempting to exploit the lgbt community's anger. I think that they are counting on some of us to be there at their “protest.” They are counting on us to be extremely angry and extremely vocal. They are counting on us to shout them down so that they can portray themselves as innocent Christians beset by “evil homosexuals.”
The solution to this reminds me of a story told to me about when the Ku Klux Klan came to a small town. The community leaders got together and organized a boycott. When the Klan came, no one was there to greet them, shout at them, or allow themselves to be exploited by the ugly words emanating from the hate group.
Certainly I am not saying that we should be absent when the CADC and their allies come to the Justice Department. What I am saying is that we should let them wallow in the filth of their own ignorance.
Everything is on our side here. If they advocate violent action against lgbts, then their Christian guise is eliminated. If they merely speak as to what they say are “Biblical words” about homosexuality and nothing happens to them (which it won't), then there is egg on their faces.
And if any of us is there when the latter happens, I think we should not only take note of the egg on their faces but also remind the nation of it every chance we get.

God…“You know your god is man-made when he hates all the same people you do.” – Usenet
In their eyes they will win no matter what happens…Scenario 1: They get themselves arrested – they can scream about how persecuted they are.
Scenario 2: They don’t get arrested – they will coo about how they stood up to the Feds and the Feds backed down.
In their eyes…win – win.
That’s why fanatics are so difficult to deal withNo matter what, they are successful: either their views or their agenda get promoted.
I really wish we actually could show them what persecution was like.
I hope they are all arrested, for being stupid and creating a public nuisance
If that were possible… we wouldn’t have a Republican Party (and quite a few Democrats would be sitting in jail, too.)
They will have to get permission from DC to hold any kind of publicrally on the street. Let’s hope they don’t get it.
Not to mention the money they make from it – surely little scared homophobesare digging into their wallets in the name of Jayzus all over to send in a few dollars here and there. Sound system, stage and permits won’t be that much money, the rest they get to pocket.
I respectfully disagree……with those who hope they get arrested.
Let’s hope they do get a permit. Let’s hope they can peacefully demonstrate with a permit that proves that Free Speech, even ignorant, load-of-sh*t speech, is alive and well. Then they won’t be arrested and it takes some of the wind out of their oh-we’re-so-persecuted sails.
No one is going to stop them from being stupid. And folks are right – they win either way. So let’s not hope they get a bigger victory by getting arrested.
Or…When the DOJ roundly ignores them, they will scream that it’s proof of how “anti-Christian” the Obama administration is. I can even imagine them claiming the fact that they’re not arrested is proof of “anti-Christian bigotry.” Lewis Carroll would have loved modern Amerika.
A small counter SILENT Protest ??..would be nice IF some LGBT advocates had a counter SILENT Protest with awsome signs like “Where’s your Leader Fred Phelps”? and WWJD??
It’s not that they’re “dumb enough”to actually promote specific acts of violence — it’s that they know that as long as they claim in their press release that all they were doing was “speaking their religious beliefs”, that’s all that the MSM will report. It would be great PR — they get to both encourage violence against us and claim victimhood (and have their false claims repeated uncritically). The idea seems to be to set social, if not legal, precedent — once they know they can get away with encouraging murder, they won’t stop.
If we counter-protest(and I am not sold that it’s a good idea)…
We need to be laying out some facts about these groups and the people that run them.
I agree with Alvin that this seems like an attempt to “bait” our community. Many (if not most people), for example, would be outraged at attempts to exorcise “homosexual demons” (even religious folk).
What is the background of these people and ministers regarding civil rights for other (racial) minorities.
Let’s counterprogram instead of simply responding to their program.
Pagan Lesbians acros the street trying to exorcise the hate out of the Christers would be a stunningly appropriate response, particularly if they are in religious robes.
The Chrsitian’s faith is not the only one guaranteed freedom under the Constitution
Counter by using them as a fundraiserWhy not simply use the CADC action as a fundraiser for The Matthew Sheppard Foundation?
This has been done countless times now when the Westboro Baptist Church gang protests, and I think it’s a perfect answer for the CADC bozos as well.
We can pledge $x per minute that they protest, and the longer they protest they more funds raised for a worthy anti-hate organization.
Anyone inclined to be physically present in counter-protest to the CADC might consider simply silently holding a sign “Donate $1 per minute to The Matthew Sheppard Foundation” and include the website info…let the CADC see it. It’ll mess with their bigoted brains.
Oh don’t get your panties in a knotThis is classic persecution bating on their part! They know that they can’t be arrested because the bill allows for both religious and free speech protections and I don’t think DC is crazy enough to refuse them a permit because that too would be seen as both censorship and persecution, and frankly so would any kind of counter-protest.
Except of course a taste of their own medicine! If you really want to get them upset and get their goat at the same time then give them a little taste of “Christian love”. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus gives these instructions to those who would be Christians:
“You have heard that it was said, “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:43-45)
So I gotta think that the most brilliant and effective counter-protest has got to be “milk and cookies” and “coffee and donuts” and little buttons that acknowledge that the servers are there in support of the LGBT community and support the new hate crimes bill and the freedom of speech and religion it allows their protesters to practice. And when they ask why we are there, we take the time to educate the public and the media on what the new bill really says about religious freedom and freedom of speech. In other words give them hell by answering the very question they should be asking themselves: What Would Jesus Do?
I think they are going to do exactly that. And I don’t think that the CADC or any other group who will participate in this protest are actually dumb enough to advocate violent action against lgbts.
The only act that they are afraid of losing based on their own responses to lgbt civil rights is the right to incite acts of hate against us without being held responsible.
We are going to hear how they want to stone us to make their cloud daddy happy.
For them the ability to cause us harm based on their theological interpretations is the only reason they consistently give for homo/trans phobia.
Have you ever had ‘the’ conversation with a zealot that did not reach an impasse when they brought in their religion?
Dear lord, please hear me and..Drop a bunch of flaming lions on your ‘true’ believers so they don’t feel unpersecuted.
Supply a basket of rocksAnd a few volunteers with gay pride flags. So they can either start stoning, or be seen as blowhards.
I love itWe need to tactfully embarrass them by showing the public/media that we came in peace and they in hate.
