Rep. Steve King (R-IA) opened his trap and revealed that his grasp of reality is tenuous at best. Using logic that only someone like Rick Santorum can understand, King went on WingNutDaily radio to discuss the impact marriage equality has been on his state. (BTW, he agrees with Little Ricky that allowing LGBTs to have full civil equality would lead to a right to incest.)
King belched the usual bigot blather about Iowa becoming a mecca for gay marriage, but then he jumped the rails at high speed by suggesting that if gay and lesbian couples have access to civil marriage, it is the gateway drug to socialism. This quote jaw-droppingly stupid. Cover your keyboards. (Think Progress):
So in the end this is something that has to come with a, if there’s a push for a socialist society, a society where the foundations of individual rights and liberties are undermined and everybody is thrown together, living collectively off of one pot of resources earned by everyone. That is, this is one of the goals they have to go to is same-sex marriage because it has to plow through marriage in order to get to their goal. They want public affirmation. They want access to public funds and resources. Eventually all those resources will be pooled because that’s the direction we’re going. And not only is it a radical social idea, it is a purely socialist concept in the final analysis.
A candidate for Dumbf*ckistan. . Marriage equality=socialism because when gays get married, somehow the institution of marriage automatically morphs into socialism because we’ll have access to the same public resources straight couples do.
Did I miss the memo — is there some sort of socialism “trigger” that the homos set off that heterosexual couples don’t. WTF? The full transcript of the radio program is here.

same old, same old“a society where the foundations of individual rights and liberties are undermined”. Who is undermining our individual rights and liberties?! Another projecting conservative….
Yup…Batsh*t crazy sums it all up…
Teh gays are the new welfare queenswhen it comes down to it. So Rep. King says.
Dumbfuckistan, indeed.
As I tend to do when pissed royally OFF…I pop on the headphones, head to YouTube and crank rock until my ears practically bleed.
Hey, 30 year habits are hard to break!
Anyways, was listening to this long favorite and wondered a random thought: can you IMAGINE the screaming, wailing, breast-beating and protests if this song were to come out NOW?

I Thought We Were Supposed To Beelite, rich, lots of disposable income and we’re well-funded too.
So now we’re socialists?
These people are so fucked in the head, they can’t keep their anti-gay propaganda straight.

Would I lie to you?
I keep reading up here in Maine, what is, what “sorta is kinda almost being covered” and ISN’T EVEN SLIGHTLY (Bangor Daily, I’m talking to YOU!!) being covered, and I can feel the anger within growing.
Maine media best start getting their collective asses together or they’re gonna take a pounding. And this is their only warning before tomorrow- newspaper and television BOTH.
No one has ever accused these people of logical consistencyActually, no one has ever accused them of logic.
An idea…The people who are trying to get the ‘do away with all marriage’ initiative on the ballot should make the logical extension of King’s psychosis the centerpiece of their campaign: Obviously, if you’re for marriage at all, you’re a socialist.
Rep King video I posted on Open thread…from Breibat TV http://www.pamshouseblend.com/…
…Iowa becoming a mecca for gay marriage…
(I posted this over at Joe.My.God., sorry for the repeat.)
I have an acoustic version of Missionary Man that wails…It one of my favorite Eurythmics songs.
It is on the Angel single. The guitar on this track is amazing.
Tempted to postthis and say it’s a new Yes on 1 ad:
Gawds, I do love the cheesy ’80s…
ROTF!I just squawked so loud I scared the hell out of my cat…
>Sighs<These f*ing morons wouldn’t know socialism if it reared up and bit them of their collective ass!
But then, we need to remind these dumbf*cks that the VA, Social Security, and Medicare/Medicaid are socialist institutions, not to mention a city’s police department, fire department and public schools! (Let’s not forget that the Reicht’s been attacking public schools for decades now!)
I wonder if Rep. Dingaling’s willing to introduce a bill eliminating all those institutions, turning them over to private business!
adorable image
I loved this when I saw it earlier at Joe’s placeand I love it even more now that it’s larger.
His Idea of 2010 looks like Germany 1939.
Hilarious comments on this topic at another NC blogEd Cone posted on this item earlier.
Basic understanding of economic and political theory are required to get the jokes.
Obviously Congressman Idiot (R-Iowa) doesn’t qualify.

Actually, they are simplysocial institutions, not socialist ones. They’re present and necessary in any developed society, regardless of what economic system that society adopts. Adam Smith, the philosophical founder of capitalism, certainly saw such institutions as desirable and didn’t believe that private markets were capable of serving the needs they served. It’s only the ersatz form of pie-in-the-sky capitalism promoted by Ayn Rand and her followers that they’re incompatible with.
It all comes down to the fact that “society” is not simply a synonym for “economy.” None of these institutions accounts for more than a trivial part of any nation’s economy, but they are nonetheless essential ingredients for any society that reasonable people would want to live in. They are not “means of production” in the sense that one speaks of when distinguishing economic systems. Needless to say, marriage is also not a means of production, and isn’t tied to any particular economic system.
I’m sure King wouldn’t see couples “living in sin” who decide to “make it legal” as moving toward socialism; I’m sure he’d see it as moving away from socialism, merely reflecting the fact that to Americans who know little to nothing about economic systems, “socialism” merely refers to the same concept that kids talk about when they say “cooties.”
