Mark Foley, the Florida Republican who left Congress in 2006 amid accusations he sent lurid e-mails to male House pages, is credited with helping to sour the electorate’s view of the Grand Old Party in a year when Nancy Pelosi and the Dems swept into power.In the years since, he’s been in real estate investment, contemplating a return to politics.
Tonight, he makes his debut as a radio talk show host. “Inside the Mind of Mark Foley,” billed by the station as a program that “will expose the inner workings of Washington, D.C.,” airs at 6 p.m. EST on WSVU-AM (960) out of North Palm Beach, Fla. It can also be heard at www.seaviewam960.com.

Foley was openly gayand was consulted and toned down Repulican anto-gay rhetoric.
What I am talking about is the politics of personal destruction – I didn’t like it when the Repubs used at against Clinton, and I don’t like it now.
I’m all in favor of going after Haggard or Stevens or Vitter for their actions.
But going after Foley, or another recent victim Spitzer, serves only to advance the Puritan agenda, not mine.
um, noHe was denying the (longstanding) rumors as late as 2003, when the papers first started reporting the story. Didn’t come out (‘fess up) till after he resigned. His legislation was mostly aimed at cracking down on sex offenders and child pornography.
um, noPublicly he didn’t run as a gay candidate so a lot of his Rebub voters weren’t aware.
But his fellow Congressmen know and he and Kolbe were consulted and were a force in toning down Rep. anti-gay rhetoric and action.
An interesting read is David Kuo, Bush’s first “Faith Based” Czar, which discusses this.
IN the meantime, there is no way to distinguish the comments here from those found on the Free Republic.
