Note to Kansas U.S. Representative Lynn Jenkins…
When you say something as ridiculous as this:
“Republicans are struggling right now to find the great white hope,” Jenkins said. “I suggest to any of you who are concerned about that, who are Republican, there are some great young Republican minds in Washington.”
An apology of this nature really doesn't help much.
“Obviously I was discussing the future of the Republican Party in response to a question about is there any hope for Republicans,” Jenkins said. “I was explaining that there are some bright lights in the House, and I was unaware of any negative connotation. If I offended somebody, obviously I apologize.”
BZZZZZT…FAIL-O-RAMA. That bit of jack*ssery only confirms you meant what you said the first time around — and that you need a dunce cap. Is the world of the GOP so snow white that she had NO IDEA about the racial history of the phrase Great White Hope? Nevermind.
Actually, check out this irony over at DKos – the original Great White Hope, Jess Willard, who was picked to defeat the big black buck champion Jack Johnson (and lost), was born in Jenkins' district. 30 miles from where the not-so-enlighted Congresswoman grew up – St. Clere, Kansas. And not too far from Topeka, home of the Westboro Baptist Klan. ROTFLOL.

No I think KO got it right tonight when he said …Ooops She meant to say. ” HOOD “.
“If I offended somebody…”Why do they alway say that?
There’s no “if” about it.
Why can’t they simply say…
“I apologize to those who were offended by my words”
But, then again, I’ve been accused of being sexist, mysogynist, ageist, transphobic, and just today “ableist” on this blog.
So, who am I to object to an obvious racist?
Petty objections to using words like “elderly” and “alcoholic” and “prostitute” make our objections to Jenkin’s use of the term “great white hope” seem less legitimate.
Unfortunately, there are people who scrutinize every word that others use looking for something that they can bitch about. It happens every day on PHB.
Perhaps we should reserve our outrage for more obvious offenses.
She’s sorry she was caught being racist. n/t
She’s either an imbecile or a lying racist. Not a good position she caught herself in. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go vent my laughter.
Again, these “apologies” are worseand more insulting than what was said in the first place.
Look, we know that the overwhelming majority of the base of the Republican Party nowdays is racist. Stand on it. Be proud of it. Own it.
But………………..
But, if somehow, no one had noticed your admission by implication that you’re a racist, you wouldn’t feel the need to do anything?
I’ve often wondered it this use of “if” is a colloquialismDo they mean “since” and substitute “if” or are they deliberately avoiding responsibility?
Does she mean:
“Since I offended somebody, obviously I apologize.”
I’ve seen similar things. Many people say “that’s funny” and they actually mean “that’s strange” — causing others to think an unusual situation isn’t being taken seriosuly.
Does anyone know the answer to this one?
I Thought the GOP Already Have Their “Great White Hope?”Her name is Sarah Palin.
McCandy. The Caribou Barbie.
Polls show Republicans are behind her for a presidential run in 2012 by huge margins.
She’s an “Eskimo woman”Don’t laugh. There are people in Kansas and Nebraska who think Sarah Palin is some kind of exotic foreigner from the North Pole. Scary, huh?
I repeatSan Fernando Valley
There is a culturally and politically backward part of L.A. called the valley, where I was at a gym one evening. Some women asked a guy to go to aerobics with them. He replied: “Aerobics? No, I’d look like one of Jerry’s kids.” I realized then that there is a segment of the population that has no mental filters of any sort, that can easily and unashamedly blurt out anything without worrying about bothering or offending anyone else. I guess republicans are the valley writ large.

BWA HAHAHAHAH AH AHA AHAHA HAHA AHAAHAHAHAHAH AHAHA!!!!!!!
Oh dear. That is the funniest shit I have read in like forever. Thanks.
Who lost?
Make no mistake: The phrase ‘great white hope’ originated in the quest to find someone to take the title away from Johnson. However, (1) Willard is the one who ultimately did beat him (though even now its claimed that Johnson threw the fight; and there’s some photographic – including motion picture – evidence that lends credence to that – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J… ); and (2), I think that the ‘great white hope’ tag may also have been put on one or more people who had unsuccessfully challenged Johnson.
Grow a spine, “Great White Dope”They can never say, “I’m sorry I said something offensive.” Accept it. Own it. Take responsibility! Isn’t that what you want in a representative of government? Jeebus.
Anyway, come on, this is common knowledge. I’ve never read the play or seen the movie but I knew where the phrase came from. Anyone my age or older should have just picked that up from the meanest cultural exposure.
Scary, yesbut not exactly surprising. It makes you wonder what school boards and teachers in those areas do all day, doesn’t it?
