Update: Oh good gravy! This odd post from the Pray In Jesus Name Project was apparently based on an odd Op-Ed from the Wall Street Journal on the Veterans Administrations “Death Books.”
Video from Countdown on the “Death Books” story now — and after they post their video, from the Rachel Maddow Show on the “Death Books” story as well. Both videos are/will be below the fold.
Good gravy! And egads!
~~Autumn~~
Egads people! Who knew that the Veterans Administration was trying to kill me in suggesting that I fill out an Advanced Directive! You know, that document that spells out who I want to make healthcare decisions for me if I can’t make these decisions for myself.
The previously documented half-truthers at the Pray in Jesus Name Project are convinced President Obama wants me dead. No, I’m not kidding. From their website:
Wall Street Journal: Obama pressuring Veterans toward Euthanasia
The Wall Street Journal just published a shocking editorial written by a respected University President, confirming the Obama Administration is now using VA hospitals to order doctors to pressure all military veterans to sign “pull the plug” do-not-resuscitate orders, hastening their premature deaths through mandatory “end of life” counseling. President Jim Towey of Saint Vincent’s College, founder of the non-profit “Aging With Dignity” and former White House Director of faith based initiatives, wrote a blistering expose entitled “The Death Book For Veterans,” revealing President Obama’s new Veterans Administration (VA) directive, presumably signed by VA Secretary, General (ret.) Eric Shinseki, which mandates all veterans’ primary care physicians must graphically discuss “end of life planning” with all VA patients (not merely those nearing death), and must refer them to “Your Life, Your Choices,” a book that openly encourages Euthanasia and was written with guidance from the group formerly known as the Hemlock Society. That same pro-suicide group now boasts on their web-site of directly leading the charge to ensure “end of life counseling” is mandated in the Obamacare bill, HR 3200.
On page 21 of the Shinseki-mandated Veteran’s Euthanasia book, all military veterans are encouraged to complete a checklist of various scenarios, to decide whether their own life would be “not worth living.” For example, the booklet asks veterans 7 questions pressuring veterans to sign a “living will” that authorizes doctors to terminate their life:
1) Living in a nursing home?
2) Being in a wheelchair?
3) Not able to “shake the blues?”
4) Ever heard anyone say, “If I’m a vegetable, pull the plug?”
5) No longer able to contribute to your family’s well-being?
6) Are you a severe financial burden to your family?
7) Do you cause severe emotional burden for your family?
“This hurry-up-and-die message is clear and unconscionable,” says Towey, “Worse, a July 2009 VA directive [presumably signed by Shinseki] instructs its primary care physicians to raise advance care planning with all VA patients and to refer them to ‘Your Life, Your Choices.’ [the Euthanasia booklet.] Not just those of advanced age and debilitated condition-all patients. America’s 24 million veterans deserve better.” Towey recommends a “five wishes” living-will document that does not pressure suicide.
But the Hemlock Society booklet is now MANDATED for doctor referral to all patients in all VA hospitals, heaping more evidence upon the growing list of proofs that the Obama Administration is LYING TO THE PUBLIC by denying their health care plan pushes Euthanasia on the elderly. They already do it today. Just imagine if ALL hospitals become government-run.
Egads people! I better let my designated healthcare decision-maker Vicki know that the secret cabal behind Obama Tranny-Care are also behind Obama Veteran-Killer-Care!
Egads people! EGADS!

A friend of mine got this email from her Mom.This is part of the response I helped her compose:
“The issue you’re seeing mischaracterized here is about advance directives, also known as living wills. End-of-life consultations are not about euthanasia – they are about discussing what you do or don’t want medical staff to do in the case that you are incapacitated by a medical catastrophe, and setting that down so that your wishes regarding resuscitation and heroic life-saving medical procedures are clear and unequivocal. This allows YOU, not anyone else – not me, not Scott, not my brother, and certainly not the insurance company, the doctor, or the government to control how catastrophic health situations are handled. I very much hope you have already had such discussions with doctors so that we, your relatives, are spared the agony of having to figure out – or even argue over – what you would have wanted in such a situation. Nothing about advance directives authorizes termination of a life; it tells doctors and your family how far you want us to go to save your life.
Veterans are valued members of our community, and they deserve to have this control over what is done in their names, with their health, regardless of how they get their healthcare. That’s what advance directives are about, and it’s my sincere hope that you support them having full control over their healthcare, right to the last beat of their hearts. Scott and I do. We believe everyone should have that level of control over their healthcare. This provision just makes sure that doctors get paid to talk to their patients about it by insurance, which encourages doctors to spend the time it takes to truly explain what a living will is – something that the people who sent you this email did not do. This is a disservice to you, and by extension, to us, since you have forwarded patently wrong, easily-debunked misinformation.
Please don’t send me things like this in the future. If you feel you must continue to forward such emails, please do yourself and the rest of us the service of becoming truly informed on the issue before deciding to (a) believe what you’ve been told; (b) forward the email and potentially misinform others. If you are unable to do that, please remove me from your distribution list.
Since it appears that you have not taken the time to read the bill, it is attached. The facts are also available at http://www.whitehouse.gov/real… for your respectful consideration.”

I’m sure it will have zero positive effect, but we tried.
THIS Planet
Oh, well done Autumn!Next these ninnies will say that people like my parents, who long ago filled out living wills, are in actuality suicidal.
I just have to ask…..was there not one “Christian” among them that knew they’re being dishonest?
Isn’t That Lunatic……that runs the risibly named “Pray in Jesus’ Name Project” the same one that claims (untruthfully) that he was drummed out of the chaplaincy service for praying in Jesus’ name?
I believe that he’s also one of those imprecatory prayors who is praying for Obama (and who knows who else) to die or be killed.
Why are these right wing ass wipes So worried about health care? I thought they claim God heals all and saves all. I guess their prayers aren’t working.
HOW f*cking insultingThese holier than thou MORONS have obviously never had to face the difficult end of life decisions in someone they love.
Maybe it’s these selfish SOBs never loved anyone PERIOD!
yet another chapter in the ongoing saga of how obama and the democrats can’t stand up for themselves…and how they allow the deranged fringe crackpots to direct progress in this country. pathetic and inexcusable. democrats deserve to lose elections, at this point.
I confess…
I am a cynic who believes that most people are, shall we say, mentally deficient.
But the last month has shocked me at just HOW “deficient” many are.
Among a wide assortment of idiocies to choose from are the variations on “government should not be involved in health care” and “NO to ‘socialized medicine’” when it comes from people who are already on GOVERNMENT Medicare or their parents are.
Barney Frank is far from perfect but Obama Inc. could have turned this around if, within the first week, of the organized mobs, they started pushing back like Frank did to the dining room table er willfully insane woman instead of continuing to imagine that one can reason with lunatics.
not only are they complete morons dealing with a lot of paranoia, but probably afraid of dying in general. no wonder they have a problem wiht euthanasia. i had to do a report in a class on it in favor of the choice of assisted suicide. I suggest this website to Oregon’s laws on this issue http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ph/p… god, i dislike paranoid right wingers, but ignorant ones even more.
By their friends you shall know them… . And we have no friends in this debate.
So why this endless attempt to rehabilitate Obama by comparing him to the right wing nut jobs unleashed by Faux New tycoon Rupert Murdoch, the real Daddy Warbucks. AlterNet says
Who befefits if Obama falters. Lots of people. The the Clintons and Rupert Murdoch go back a long way. In the early stages of the primaries, “On Monday, July 17, 2006, at Fox News headquarters in New York City, Rupert Murdoch hosted a fundraiser breakfast for Hillary Clinton. Then he rushed off to a fundraiser lunch for John McCain, and Hillary rushed off to announce her unqualified support for Israel’s and Bush’s war policies.”
An “…analysis of campaign contributions from employees of the (Fox) News Corporation and its affiliates, including 20th Century Fox, Fox Sports and the like, reveals they skew heavily Democratic and toward Mrs. Clinton, who collected more than $100,000 in donations compared with about $80,000 for Mr. Obama… and less than $20,000 to Republicans seeking their party’s presidential nomination.” (That changed and later McCain got the lions share of Murdochs ‘twenty pieces of silver”.
Perhaps Murdoch, who’s behind the teabagger mobs, thinks he creating a debt he can collect later if Obama is limited to one term.
What ever, Obama’s health czar plan is a sellout plan from A to Z.
The fix is on. Obama is selling out so fast it makes peoples heads swim. His health care fiasco will end up being worse than those proposed by Clinton and McCain. So much for the lesser evil of health plans. The latest is Obama’s openly racist decision to deny health care to immigrant and imported workers.
We have no stake in defending the Obama presidency or his health care plan. None at all.
I wouldtell them to use every last cent to keep me alive.
I enjoy life far too much.
Ah it’s starting my friends …Murdoch is finally turning TWJ in yet another yellow rag like his other papers.
Can’t wait to see the big boobed Wall Street gals on page 5.
You must feel for the long-time real journalists at TWJ who can’t escape the clutches of Murdoch’s yellow journalism because of the economy and the newspaper business in general.
Arrrr !
