Pam, did you attend a feminist panel at netroots?I read someone very impressed with the caliber of women represented,(I think on HuffPo) but never saw it mentioned.
if you have footage or know of some, I’d like to see it.

yes, it was on Saturday (last day of panels)I have not found footage of this, though I did see cameras there recording. If anyone finds it, let us know.
It was Women Bloggers Found:  Has Feminist Blogging Gone Mainstream?Jill Filipovic, Amanda  Marcotte, Samhita Mukhopadhyay, Lindsay Beyerstein, Pam Spaulding.A few  years ago, male bloggers ’round the liberal bloglandia were wondering out loud,  ”Where are the women bloggers?” Many of the women in the feminist and  progressive blogospheres responded with frustration-we were there, and had been,  the whole time. Today, the blogosphere looks awfully different, as feminist  bloggers are increasingly mainstreamed and able to exert stronger influence on  online discourse. But “blogging while feminist” isn’t always easy, and feminist  bloggers have faced harassment and threats that are uniquely gendered and  sexualized. Feminists who have been most successful at running bigger blogs have  also been mostly young, white, heterosexual and middle-class-so their issues  have been presented to the mainstream progressive movement as the whole of  feminism. This panel will look at what has changed, what hasn’t and who remains  on the edges of progressive blogging. It will also examine how female  bloggers-and feminist bloggers in particular-are treated in mainstream spaces,  and what we can do about it.

Thanks Pam! :) Love ya dearly, but I am NOT transcribing a 66+ minute video- lol! But am definitely going to watch every minute of it, as soon as the nasty line of thunderstorms (tornado in NH) has rolled past us.
This is a fabulous panel and a topic I would have LOVED to have attended in person; many thanks for this post!

LOLOLUh, that would be one transcription I wouldn’t ask anyone to touch with a ten foot pole. It would be brain-numbing.

Thanks!Pam, thanks for posting this. The emphasis seems to be: get started early, organize everywhere.
At the end it was mentioned that the following day there was a talk specifically on Maine. Is there a video of that available?

Definitely worth the view time.In terms of getting folks to open their wallets for the Maine contest, longer clips like this seem like a great way to reassure those of us from away that serious people, plans and field work are in place.
More importantly, though, 2,661 friends?  Damn.  I promise this’ll be the first and last time I pull this stunt, but I’d certainly enjoy welcoming any folks here at PHB to become friends with me:

One Feminist Blogger…and LGBT ally worth reading: fem.men.ist. He’s a straight black guy in Oakland, CA; I started reading his blog following the murder of Oscar Grant on New Year’s Day this year.
In a recent post, I Identify As A Feminist, Hilarity Ensues, he deals with the people’s reactions to finding out that he is feminist. I think there are some helpful comparisons to the issues faced by straight LGBT allies, especially men, coming out as pro-LGBT.

Hey Brian, When are you going to start signing your blog posts with NOM’s new office address?  That new DC office of yours is NOM HQ now, correct?

“There is an office in Princeton, but we’re moving our main office here … We will be moving employees down here. Right now, I’m the main employee located here. Maggie Gallagher is also coming down.”
