This is awesome! Someone over at SLOG posted a video from the YouTube channel Trannystar Galactica. This is the first I’ve heard of it – transfolk fielding questions, talking about their lives, and being incredibly adorable. Here are a few videos I liked (Leith & Les, you’re awesome!).
What a refreshing find after reading Autumn’s story about Conan O’Brien.
Oh btw, can’t help but notice that some of the people posting videos at TG self identify as trannys (or trannies). This seems reminiscent of some LGBTs who identify as queer in that some folks in a community like a reclaimed label and some folks don’t. Same in the trans community with tranny it seems. Just as queer and LGBT aren’t interchangeable terms within our broader community, neither are transgender and tranny within the trans community. Everybody has their favorite label (or lack thereof). In fact, I think there was a TG video on that very subject…
Anyways, take it away Leith & Les!

TransThere actually has been a lot of discussion and argument in the trans community about the use of the word tranny, its oppression of trans women and its use by trans men.
thanks for the links LurleenThe videos are interesting glimpses of people. Some seem so vulnerable, and quite brave showing that aspect of themselves.
Thanks for the heads up, Lurleen.I’d have never stopped to watch something named Trannystar Galactica. I just assumed it was like a comic book or animated kind of thing, which isn’t my cup of tea. I’m glad I read your whole piece.
Somebody ought to post these regularly, like in an open thread, as they are released. Like you said, they’re a refreshing find. Doesn’t hurt that both Leith and Les are cute as heck, either.
The episodes of TSG shown…… feature Leith and Les. Leith is better known online as riftgirl, nd about 6 months ago removed all her personal stuff ans shut down her account.
SHe and Les met via youtube through their repsective channels, and Les still posts on rare occasions but she’s taking a long (and well deserved) hiatus as her stuff was often hilarious and inspiring.
They left TSG not long after moving in together, and it continued on.
The youtube trans community is enormous, with several hundred people documenting aspects of their transition, their lives, and more.
It is amazing to watch a lot of them from early on through the process, and doing so will give you a great idea of just how varied the trans community is, and how much they have have in common.
You calla me a tranny, I breaka you faceIt’s totally the equivalent of “nigger” to me. I will never ever accept that ugly word.
I wouldn’t dream of it.I agree that it seems to belong to that group of terms that an outsider should never touch without permission from an individual who might want it applied to themselves (but who can’t give permission for it to be used with reference to others).
yeahwhich is why the N-word makes a fairly apt analogy.
Leith and LesReminded me of anonymous T girl videos I saw quite a while ago, so maybe it’s just similar.
