Matt Barber is upset. The Idaho Department of Corrections recently settled a lawsuit filed by two with transgender inmates who, according to the Associated Press, “…contended they were subjected to cruel and unusual punishment because they were denied treatment for gender identity disorder.
The settlement, again according to the Associated Press, does the following:
The policy now limits the time inmates must wait for treatment, specifies how they may be diagnosed, and clarifies when they qualify for hormone therapy.
As you can imagine, this doesn’t make the Liberty Counsel‘s Matt Barber happy at all. Remember, he’s the same Matt Barber who’s been concerned that healthcare reform that makes it through Congress and is signed by the President will include insurance mandates for “sex change operations.” From OneNewsNow‘s Transgender inmates fight for hormone therapy:
…”Perhaps the state here might consider helping these severely disturbed individuals to get the spiritual and psychological help they need to align their falsely, self-perceived gender identity with their God-given gender reality,” Barber notes.Barber believes prison officials are doing transgendered inmates a disservice. “The American Psychological Association still considers gender confusion — GID, gender identity disorder — a disorder. It is a mental disorder,” he contends.
According to Barber, prisons throughout the U.S. should help suffering inmates to overcome their gender delusions.
So, according to Matt Barber, the way to not treat trans patients in a medically appropriate manner is to insist instead that trans people receive reparative therapy as “appropriate treatment.”
And by the way, there is no condition called “gender confusion,” as Mr. Barber refers to GID. “Gender confusion” the term that conservative “Christians” like to throw around for trans people like me. If you’ve ever were to meet me, the one thing you can be sure of is that I’m not gender confused at all; I know what my gender is, and I know it’s female.
And by the way too, I’m sure Mr. Barber’s solution to having gay, lesbian, and bisexual inmates would be the same treatment of reparative therapy them as well — yes, let’s have mandatory reparative therapy for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the government’s care — it’s the “Christian” thing to do, right?

Hah.Other treatments for other conditions only wish they had the results that HRT and GRS have for TG people. If it were anything else, people would be crowing the miracle cure for it. But since we’re just ‘freaks’, well, we don’t deserve such things.
the success rate of HRT and GRS I am sure the numbers are very high, although I have never seen actual statistics regarding them.
I do know that the main cause of depression for a Transsexual person is the inability to afford either one or both.
And then to think the amount of money that has been and will continue to be wasted on faith based BS and abstinence only spending by the government, would probably cover all the costs for every TS person in the US with money to spare.
Not to mention the reduced suicide rates of TS people. Sure would be a great return on the money wasted on the other programs I mention.
Bam-Bam is just a religious dolt that has no clue of TS issues.

He can try and be as scary as he wants, but nothing’s as scary as being Peter LaBarbera’s best buddy: being seen everywhere with Peter LaBarbera – flipping through gay porn with Peter – trying to seduce “ex-gays” with Peter LaBarbera – filming and photographing man on man sex with Peter LaBarbera.
And I’ve never met a trans person as creepy as Matt Barber, or his best buddy.

Denying trans inmates their proper, internationally-recognized hormonal therapy, it tantamout to denying other inmates with other serious medical conditions their needed medical treatment.
Of course, the fundie crowd only see gender as a binary — they can barely even comprehend intersexuality and chimeras, so anything like gender identity is beyond their intelligence.
He believes in walking on water, raising the dead and virgin births,and he has the gall to call other people “severely disturbed”?! Who says irony is dead?
Grrrr ….where is the guy that likes to take his gun for a walk?I just wanna borrow it for a shot or three.
Seriously, people like this who know nothing and make such blanket statments make me just plain rage! I would love to let him experiance just one day of MY hell with out HRT.
