Just sickening. Back in September 2008, the feds raided the Tony Alamo Christian Ministries in Fouke, located south of Texarkana, after an investigation into minor children being abused at the property.
The 74-year-old Alamo, who believes that age of consent is puberty, homosexuality is caused by demon possession and “the Vatican, the one-world government and church are spiritually powered by that old serpent called the Devil,” is now on trial facing a 10-count indictment alleging he took underaged girls across state lines for sex.
A 9-year-old girl was considered too young to answer the office phone at evangelist Tony Alamo’s compound, but old enough for frequent sex with the ministry leader, she alleged at his federal trial on child-sex charges.The woman, now 18, testified that she dodged security cameras and roving guards to escape the compound in 2006. Her testimony left jurors red-eyed and shaking their heads Thursday….Defense lawyers have largely left the sex and underage marriage claims unchallenged, though they have questioned witnesses’ memories and whether they had been coached by authorities.
The teenage witness said Alamo “married” her when she was 8, and groped her after their wedding…She said at one point she asked the minister why he had selected her. “He said, `Because you were cute,’” she said on the witness stand. “It wasn’t God’s will that he married me. It’s just because he thought I was cute.
This man shouldn’t see the light of day again. The Southern Poverty Law Center did an extensive investigation into Alamo’s “ministry.”
As detailed in the Fall 2007 issue of the Report, Alamo in recent years has argued that girls should marry once they start menstruating, even if they are as young as 10. In a 2006 radio broadcast, he said: “God impregnated Mary when she was about 11 years old. So the government idiots, the people that don’t know the Bible, what you’re going to have to do is get a hold of God now, you’re going to have to get up there and cuff him and send him to prison for statutory rape.”In early 2007, Alamo cited the alleged promiscuity of 1st-graders as grounds for marrying them before the age of legal consent. “I’ve found out from people’s parents that their daughter started having sex when she was 6 years old and had sex every day of her life,” he said in another broadcast. “So right there, by the time she’s 15 years old, she’s had sex thousands of times. I mean, this is just reality.”

i don’t want to sound anti-christian… but…How can you work in a situation where there are literally dozens of adult women who see this happening on a daily basis and do nothing?

Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, nothern Texas…Intellectually, morally, and in terms of the “leadership” they elect, that part of the country is still a Dust Bowl.

It’s a characteristic of a cult, which is how a LOT of christian churches operate these daysThere are some sects which do NOT act this way, but more and more denominations, from the catholic hierarchy to the mormon “church” to the pentecostal circus shows, do exhibit cult-like behaviors, particularly exaltation of leadership and hive mind. Enabling illegal, immoral, and harmful behavior of the cult leader is a very typical thing for cult followers to do, either out of fear or out of actual devotion. In this case, we have Tony Alamo declaring himself to be the one attuned to the “Higher Power,” which mysteriously agreed that Tony should have all the underage children he wanted based on the fact that they might have already had their first period. And his followers were not going to argue with him.
Part of the cultThe parents of these children themselves were brainwashed into this cult years before. In some cases, even their parents were some of Alamo’s original followers from the 60′s.
You look into this group and there isn’t much difference between Alamo and Jim Jones, David Koresh, and every other charismatic preacher in this country except that Alamo hasn’t told his flock to self destruct yet.
These people have such a spell on their followers that is is absolutely mind boggling how someone can be so captured by one man.

Born in Joplin Missouri in 1934 to a Romanian- Jewish family. Yea, that’s right, he was born a Jew.
The guy literally grew up thinking that he had something that Hollywood would want and he wound up there in the early 60′s where he became a preacher to the stars in some ways.
Part con-man, part hoodlum, all bullshit. It comes as no surprise that he eventually winds up screwing around with underage girls all because he says God told him to.
The son of a bitch should have gone to Federal Lockup on a permanent basis back in the 90′s after his compound near Alma, just down the road from my home now, was raided.
But like Al Capone, all they could nail his sorry ass for then was not paying taxes.

I was taught that Mary was probably between 13 and 15, not that it matters. Mary was old enough to GIVE HER CONSENT. And God, btw, didn’t have SEX with her. (Nor did he marry her, but that’s another story.)

what a piece of workHe was a vocalist with Sammy Kaye’s “swing and sway” orchestra in the 50s, and he continued to record music both secular and religious… in the 80s he did some Antonio Carlos Jobim covers that were hideous.
Alamo (pronounced “a LAME-o”) also marketed some very tacky jackets called “Artistry in Glitz.”
But he first came to my attention when his ministry plastered posters all over my hometown declaring that the press was Vatican-controlled… using much of the same rhetoric some have used against the Jews.
The cults are definitely taken overI don’t even understand the language they use. I was watching the same-sex parenting episode of 30 Days (online on Hulu) and it’s so clear, as the show progresses, how the real battle for the transplanted subject is learning to think for herself…
