Ralph Reed dubs himself the fundie Steve Jobs
For this evening’s laugh, take a look at the blather coming out of the mouth of fundie Ralph Reed regarding the launch of his latest group, the Faith and Freedom Coalition.
One of the most controversial and successful figures of late 20th century politics wants to expand his brand to the 21st.Ralph Reed believes conservative voters of faith need a Christian Coalition 2.0. And the man once dubbed the “right hand of God” by Time magazine is returning to the arena where he had his greatest success to try and make it so.
“This is not going to be your daddy’s Christian Coalition. It has to be younger, hipper, less strident, more inclusive and it has to harness the 21st century that will enable us to win in the future. Even though I’ve been doing other things, this is kind of like Steve Jobs returning to Apple.”
I should point out that he phrased his nifty spin on diversity a bit more explicitly to US News and World Report::
“It’s got to be more brown, more black, more female, and younger. It’s critical that we open the door wide and let them know if they share our values and believe in the principles of faith and marriage and family, they’re welcome.”
Hat tip, Right Wing Watch.

Does Ralph knowthat Steve Jobs is dying of cancer? Maybe it is an apt comparison.
This guy makes me cross-eyed crazy. And now I will vent my frustration by making a video about him. Does anyone have an ideas on a theme besides, “Ralph Reed Makes Me Cross-Eyed Crazy”?
He was this golden boy when Newt was up to his shenanigans, and then he kind of faded into obscurity.
Go back in your hole, Ralph!
Is it cancer? :’-(Some shithead at the NYT revealed some cryptic tidbits about Jobs’ medical condition, part of a conversation Jobs said was off the record. As much as Steve is Apple, his health is his business. Gar!
i normally would agree, but like voters thinking about the longevity of a presidential candidate, since apple is jobs i think potential investors are understandably curious about his health.
There are also laws about medical privacy, and the investors are not above them.
I <3 Steve, and I understand the shareholders' concernsBut if he is dying, they need to give him some privacy as to how he handles this event.
He’s brilliant and charismatic and makes the brand, but it’s an unreasonable expectation if shareholders think he’s going to run it forever. And while he’s a unique being, as we all are, he’s not the only person that can lead and manage that company. Jobs will always = Apple, but he’s a person first.
i don’t knowanything about how the facts got out. i do know that before they did, people were questioning the solidity of the company because jobs was visibly losing weight.
Notice Ralphie didn’t mention MORE REDRalphie F*CKED his reputation with Abramoff scandal with two Native American tribes.
Faith and Freedom Coalition?Uh, that’s the same name that’s running the anti-domestic partnership petition in Washington State.
What a lack of originality.
This IS the new trend.Reed says: [The new religious right] has to be younger, hipper, less strident, more inclusive…
This is what the new generation of preacher is all about: Masking over their venality and greed with a quasi–New Age “Kum-ba-ya” smiley face.
The new religious right is more dangerous than your father’s was. They will kill you in cold blood while giving you a Sarah Palin smile.
yupSame old racist bullshit, new and exciting package!
No public figure I can think of–and I mean NONE–sets off my gaydar more loudly than Ralph Reed. He makes Lindsey Graham seem butch. Very few things I can think of would give me more pleasure than to see some new Mike Jones step forward and out him. Hmm…it might not be more complicated than slipping Ted Haggard some truth serum.
