Talk about an abdication of responsibility — the South Carolina GOP just gave a wrist slap to a man who left his post and went AWOL without telling anyone in government where he was going or turning the reins over to the Lieutenant Gov. Let’s set aside the matter of the “little Sanford” controlling Mark Sanford’s judgment to go chase some tail, there would be a whole lot more than healing going on if the Palmetto State was hit with a natural disaster or some other sort of emergency while the governor was getting his pole attended to by his Argentinian mistress. Do you have any doubt that if this was a Dem governor that the state GOP would be calling for the man’s head?
South Carolina Republicans have voted to censure the state’s governor Mark Sanford over a sex scandal rather than calling for his resignation, easing pressure on their beleaguered colleague to quit. The party issued the censure late on Monday to admonish Sanford over his affair with an Argentine woman and said he had “breached the public trust” and demonstrated “repeated failures” but stopped short of recommending further action.
…The chairwoman of the South Carolina Republicans called for an end to the three-week scandal that began when Sanford disappeared for several days. Aides said he was hiking in the Appalachian but it later emerged he had gone to visit his lover in Argentina.
“Now is the time for healing,” said chairwoman Karen Floyd.
Astounding hypocrisy.

It’s not really his fault anyway It’s our fault. His wife believes it. Rush Limbaugh says it. It must be true.

It’s hard to know what to think. As much as I dislike Sanford, and as horrible a governor as he’s been, I’m not sure I really want him to resign. I’m afraid Andre Bauer might be even worse.
“Astounding hypocrisy”pretty well sums it up. I pulled out my thesaurus to see if maybe there was a stronger term, these are a few:
astonishing hypocrisy,
bewildering hypocrisy,
flabbergasting hypocrisy,
overwhelming hypocrisy,
shocking hypocrisy,
staggering hypocrisy,
startling hypocrisy,
stunning hypocrisy,
stupefying hypocrisy,
surprising hypocrisy,
knocking me over with feather hypocrisy
While “astounding” certainly works, I like “staggering” and “stunning”. Perhaps we need a poll to determine what word best describes this hypocrisy :-)
The GOPis officially morally bankrupt on pretty much every issue. Still, this does not surprise me in the least. The rhetoric around this has all been in “chrisian” terms, which means certain people (famous, powerful, straight) get a total pass for almost any “sin,” but other people can be slammed and beaten and hurt…
Sexual Healing?Was Marvin gay(e)?
Talk about someonewho is hoping the Jackson circus goes into overtime!
Sanford’s political future is hanging by a thread…
Mark Sanford leaves the state AGAINFor any that don’t know, there’s been a killer on a spree in upstate South Carolina since June 27 leaving the region in panic (google any number of articles) and at least 5 dead.
“Governor” Mark Sanford spent the past few days out of state AGAIN to work on his marriage. This time reportedly in Florida with his wife at one of her parent’s homes.
Not able to reassure the public, or just plain demonstrate leadership and calm when a killer is on the loose? Resign!
I still have family in the area, and this scare was on my mind.
While I know the FBI and a host of other professionals were on the case, this is a textbook case of being unable to fulfill your duty as a leader or a symbol of the state because of personal failings.
Translation: You can’t do your job – even symbolically. Resign.
By the by, the suspected “serial killer” was shot dead Monday morning just across the state line in NC after a tip from the general public.

Might want to clarifythat it’s satire — it might not be obvious for people not following the link.
Sorry, yes.I’m sure it’s our fault somehow though!
Hey, Mark! Now that failed Vice Presidential Candidate and future ex-Governor Sarah Palin has returned to work after her latest “family trip and press conferences”, the boat’s available…
Gone fishin’….
I could hardly care less about the affair…But the man abandoned his job, leaving the entire government of a state hanging while he skipped the country to goof off (so to speak). Any boss in America would fire him, except the GOP.
Geesounds similar to the sort of self-serving actions Sarah Palin has indulged in, with these chats about abortion in Indiana and trip to New York with the kids…
Just one more example of no accountabilityThis is just like Wall Street executives that are unaccountable. Or Priests that are unaccountable. Or torturers that are unaccountable. Or police that are unaccountable. Or corporate executives that are unaccountable. Or politicians that are unaccountable. The general trend: “authority” that is unaccountable to the people.
And I love how they trot out the “Now is the time for healing,” which is the most blatently obvious attempt to bury dirt beneath the carpet. It always sounds alarm bells in my mind whenever I see it invoked.
Isn’t it ironic that all these skeletons keep coming out of GOP closets? I find it hilarious. The party of moral purity. Hahahahahahahaha … lololololol … ROTFLMAO!!!!
Not to mention..That since the rise of the radical right, their mantra for decades was “personal responsibility!” and “stand up for your actions!”. The reicht screamed it from every corner, in the halls of state legislatures, and the halls of Congress.
I guess “personal responsibility” ends at the (R) after their name!
healing, my patootie.Hey, Karen, hold your horses with the “healing” stuff. There used to be at least some embarrassed interval between the discovery of the pants around the ankles and the ungainly apology and rehabilitation. This guy never seemed to even muss his hair in all this. Granted, this hypocrisy has become more commonplace than revelatory, but I think we should dwell a little longer on the phenomenon of the lying Republican as a American cultural icon.
I say “So What”Sounds like a tempest in a teapot to me. If he is a liar, then vote him out.
