Tony Perkins, head of the Family Research Council, has a new sheeple grooming scheme in play. It’s called “Call 2 Fall”. On the surface, it looks harmless enough. He’s asking clerics to set aside a few minutes during services on Sunday, July 5, 2009 and “call their people to get on their knees and faces before the Lord in repentant prayer to forgive our sins and heal our land.” Perkins says his inspiration is 2 Chronicles 7:14. That may indeed be his inspiration, but his goal is decidedly profane. A look at the Call 2 Fall materials sent out by Cindy Honcoop of the Washington Eagle Forum and Protect Marriage Washington makes clear that “submission” will entail more than just genuflecting. Here is the scheme:
1. Tell people that God requires humble submission before He’ll answer your prayers.
2. Create a public event where peer pressure will come to bear because lack of submission will be obvious to the community.
3. Assert that this is God’s scheme (rather than Perkins’s), making refusal more problematic.
4. Reinforce that if you submit, God’ll do stuff for you.
5. Bait & switch by explaining that humility isn’t just kneeling for 3 minutes, it’s becoming a political minion, see Tony Perkins for your marching orders.
This is how the Washington Eagle Forum leads its members down this particular garden path:
The “Call 2 Fall” national prayer initiative is based on Scripture, from which we envision three essentials necessary for God’s blessing: a proper attitude, a prayerful action, and a promise based anticipation.A Proper Attitude: Humility and Dependence Upon God
Why we do things is of great concern to God. God looks upon our hearts. We believe God requires genuine humility in His people before He intervenes on our behalf.A Prayerful Action: Kneeling Together Before the Lord
The Call to Fall is a call for God’s people to publicly, corporately manifest humble, dependent hearts by bending our knees before Almighty God on July 5th, 2009.In Scripture, bending the knee is an act of humility, reverence and submission. Some of God’s greatest leaders demonstrated their deep humility by bending their knees in prayer before almighty God.
A Promised-Based Anticipation: God will Answer
We believe that God Himself is the originator of the “Call to Fall.” If we will do our part, we can surely anticipate that He will do His. In fact, Scripture is filled with promises for those who humble themselves before the Lord:…As a People of the Word we are called to build our nation & its God-given institutions upon the righteous foundations of His eternal Moral Law lest we be overtaken by wicked ideologies & fall prey to the control of profane & depraved men.
As Free Christian Citizens we are called to establish righteous civil government: to pray, vote, boldly proclaim God’s Word in the public square and openly support & elect Godly officials. We are charged to publicly denounce, withstand & defeat officials who despoil our Godly heritage or defy God’s eternal law by their public actions or private behavior.
Two of the board members for Protect Marriage Washington are heavily into this. One is Cindy Honcoop of Washington Eagle Forum (an affiliate of Schlafley’s Eagle Forum). The other is failed state legislative candidate Ron Boehme. Boehme is so into it that he writes insane blog posts about it that contradict each other (blog vs. blog).
The Call 2 Fall website claims that over 22,000 people and churches have committed to doing this, but there is no listing available so there is no way to find a local church to attend if you wanted to join the herd. But I think Tony Perkins could care less about playing matchmaker for people and churches. He satisfies his primary concern by requiring people who sign up to provide an email address and zip code. That’ll come in real handy when he wants to convince candidate X or senator Y that he has Z number of people in their district on speed dial.

Knee pads requiredNow I know why they should have all of those knee pads for the sheeple …..and all along I thought it was for protecting the knees of the ones who were down there sucking up.
You just got to love the ways that these bastards enslave peoples minds.
It’s called BRAINWASHING!
Oh how people have forgotten those “Moonies” from not that long ago.
I keep reading it as “Call 2 Fail” – but wow, no wonder they feel so oppressedall the time. 22,000 out of 86% of the 300,000,000 self proclaimed Christians in this country?
Guess that explains this article – where they’re searching for a cure to what ails their religion

>grinz<That’s been going on since the inception of churches and ministers, Labrat!
When you have largely uneducated masses, and only a select few have the privilege to be educated, you know there’s going to be opposition!
The early church dictators opposed nearly every advance in technology and science because it eroded what they assumed were absolute truths: Earth center of the universe, moveable type, education of the peasants, etc.
And FWIW, the Moonies are still out there, love. Have you forgotten that the Washington Times is owned by the Unification “Church”?
HumbleDoes anybody see any genuine humility in Tony Perkins’ actions and words? I’m having a hard time seeing it. Just wondering.
about that posterThere is something disturbingly pornographic about that FRC poster, and it goes beyond the wall-to-wall scarlet motif which is traditionally favored by brothels.
Looks Like The Stick Manis about to partake in Tony Perkins’ OTHER favorite activity.
You know, the subject he’s so obsessed about.
A Silhouetteof Tony Perkins getting boned AND sucking a man off.
These “religious” fools don’t fool me. You know they were giggling as they unleashed this image – any excuse to peddle pornography.
watch what you wish for TonyYour giving thumbs up to being submissives on their knees, can become habitual…ask Ted Haggard….buh hahahaha!
If they need helpin teaching people how to get down on their knees, maybe they could bring in Ted Haggard.
**phew**Glad to know I’m not the only person who keeps parsing it that way.
Odd, I don’t remember the verses that support this:“As Free Christian Citizens we are called to establish righteous civil government: to pray, vote, boldly proclaim God’s Word in the public square and openly support & elect Godly officials. We are charged to publicly denounce, withstand & defeat officials who despoil our Godly heritage or defy God’s eternal law by their public actions or private behavior.”
In fact, I’m quite sure such a commandment does not exist.
They’re in the book of TonyBrother Perkins is working on the scrolls right now…
I hear there’s quite a lot in that Book of Tony alreadyHow does he make all the time, I wonder? Writing Scripture must be HARD WORK, what with God dragging you up and down mountains and such. It’s a wonder he has time to complain about the ungodliness of single-payer healthcare.
reviewing the silhouetteHow odd: The silhouette seems to spell the word “SiN”. Does anyone else see that?
Tony works in mysterious ways.
Why not pray for our country?I am new to this board and really dont understand why it is such a horrible thing to join together and pray for our country? I am not trying to be rude, I just do not understand the hate generated on this boar by a call to fall to our knees and ask gods blessing on our country.
I understand if you are not a christian how you would not care to join in … but I do not understand the bitter and petty names given to men and women who choose to worship according to our first amendment right to do so in America.
Thanks,
Respectfully,
Doc Wright
P.S. I have dyslexia and just refuse to let it stop me from participating. I appolagize ahead of time for all the mispelled words. Fell free to put me down for it because it dosn’t bother me.
Call 2 Fall doesn’t ask you to pray for the country. It asks you to do the political bidding of Tony Perkins.
I dont see it that wayI, and most christians are independent thinkers … We will spend time praying to be the best people we can be and asking God to help our elected officials make the best choices and dicisions possible.
I do not agree with most of President Obamas ideas for America … that does not stop me from praying for his protection and praying God will lead him and the other elected officials to make good dicisions about our future.
Respectfully,
Doc Wright
The Stranger had a mini-contest a month agoto come up with variations on the logo, and here are the results:

but i chose not to re-postany of them here because they would detract from the sincerity of the story.
I see itOnce you pointed it out!
Hi Doc,Your confusion may stem from the fact that you believe the call to pray comes from your idea of a traditional Christian organization. This organization is one that calls for Christian Dominionism, a group of folks that believe the laws of this country should be replaced with Old Testament Biblical Law, but not all of them, not the one’s against adultery or divorce or fornicating, but only the laws against same sex love. Their purpose, copied from their web site says:
But in the news letters they send to each other they say:
And some of the people who have been a part of this organization have been found to be homosexual themselves, caught, so to speak, with their pants down.
I hope that clears up the confusion for you, and for thousands like you who do not know the agenda behind organizations like The Family Research Council, The National Organization for Marriage and Focus on the Family.
Doc, I answered aboveAgain I hope that helps.
Thanks for the postI do not believe in Christian dominion…. and most true Christians do not believe that either. I am not familiar with any of the people in the family research councle …. but I am familiar with people who walk with God as best they can.
All true christians KNOW we are no where near perfect. I know I am not for sure but I still do not see why people object to people praying for our country. I study the bible myself and with my family. I do not get marching orders from this or any other orginization.
I will pray for myself and our country on 5 July 2009 and believe that most of the people who participate in this day of comunity prayer will also sincerly pray that God will protect our leaders and our country and guide them in good dicisions. That , I am not confused about. It’s a good thing.
When I pray, I also pray for all Americans regardless of their race, religion, sexual preferance or belief. I believe most christians will be the same in this.
God loves us all.
nodding sheep“I, and most christians are independent thinkers”
I wish that were the case; but my experience tells me different.
Nearly everyone I know, who attends church on a regular basis, seems to believe everything they hear in church, even when it goes against everything they feel in their heart or experience in their life. This has been the foundation of many arguments in my family. “If it is stated in church it must be true.” But all too often what has been stated in church has been a twisted version of something stated in the bible or claimed to be stated in the bible. But when one thinks for themselves and does the research false or misleading statements are discovered.
My family has a tendency to nod their heads along with everyone else. It is only when they are confronted with having to defend their beliefs that they actually consider why they believe the way they do. More often than not they start with, “That is the way I was raised.”, or “It is in the bible. I’m sure it is. I was told it was there.” But when they actually discuss issues and think for themselves…
I’m just saying that in my experience most people sit through a church service agreeing with everything. Then once out the doors of the church they don’t live by Christian principles. Most don’t even remember what the sermon was; unless it was a very impassioned plea for some cause or another. That’s when it gets dangerous.
When people don’t think for themselves and are charged up by an impassioned plea for a cause they don’t understand and have not honestly thought through they can be lead to do awful things in the name of religion. This has resulted in the harming of many innocent persons, many in the LGBT community. This is why so many here at the blend are critical of groups that take advantage of their flock of nodding people.
But I am grateful for the individuals, like you, who can & do think for themselves.
fair enoughI too believe in the power of prayer, these particular comments are not so much directed at prayer itself, but at the organization and the people behind it calling for it.
Yeah, but true about people in generalHey, I was raised by atheists, and they (my parents) are very anti-gay and closed minded as well has having other issues I won’t go into here.
I know that some will say my parents were exceptions, but I see atheists here attack members of our community rather brutishly as well.
I think closed mindedness and intolerance are human failings, not necessarily things specific to a group.
in agreementI agree.
My concern is that the groups mentioned and several churches (although not all) take advantage of this fact. There is a tendency to exploit those individuals who don’t think for themselves but merely try to please God by following any commandment of the church or other organization. I’m not referring to the “ten commandments.” I mean any arbitrary requests by those in authority positions in any group.
I also agree with your quote of Blaise Pascal.
Thanks everyone. Now that was a good civil conversation. No one called anyone a “sheeple” or any other derogitory name.
Maybe I am more of an independent thinker that some in the “church”. When I use that word I am refering to the whole body of belivers in Jesus, and not a specific congregation in a particular building, denomination or organization.
When I was stationed in Guam there was a family that lived down the block from us that we became life long friends with. They were fellow TEXANS…. and they were lesbians. We went to church together, diving together, partied together and did just about everything together that friends do.
Our children grew up with their children and write, e-mail and call now that the Navy (in my case) and the ATF in their case sent both families off to different parts of the world. I love them and they love us… we are part of each other.
I know that relationship is counter to what many in the christian church believe is propper, however not the founder of the Christian church itself…. Meaning Jesus. That is why I earlier said “God loves us all”.
I learned alot from my friends in Guam … and will continue to learn from them. I will be praying for them on 5 July also.
I guess all those years of worshiping by myself or with others of differnt faiths has made me a much more independent thinker when it comes to my relationship with God and others.
Did not mean to tip the cart on this blog.
Very respectfully,
Mark (Doc) Wright
thank youDoc, thank you for your comment. What a wonderful story of lasting friendship.
You have done me a big favor by reminding me that new people come to this blog all the time and won’t necessarily know the context of my posts or understand my word choices because they haven’t read past diaries. I’ll try to keep that in mind going forward and explain myself a little better. I should never assume that a reader knows where I’m coming from.
All the best to you Doc.
