I’m here late in hotel room in NorCal’s Santa Clara, so far from my SoCal’s San Diego home.
I was planning this trip long before I planned to go to Sacramento — It’s a special day for the young, tran woman I’ve mentored for a number of years. April* offically becomes April today — today she legally changes her name to reflect her female identity.
I’ve known April for three years. Frankly, I’m excited for her, and I’m glad I get to share this wonderful day with her. It truly is a very special day in her life that she’ll remember forever; I’ll remember it forever as her “trans=Mom.” 
So, dear blenders, think some warm thoughts for April today, and I’ll let her know you’re thinking of her.

Congrats AprilI’ve known April on line for about 2 years now. We have chatted about life, transition and all of the joys and problems that come with it. I’m thrilled for her. I wish her the best of luck with her life. April, my thoughts are with you today.

Congratulations and best regards to both of you!I am wistfully reminded of the day my court-ordered sex change was issued and I could gleefully celebrate the day “I became a man”. I sincerely hope and wish that all TG/TS folks can have as unproblematic and easy a time as I have had, thanks to friends, lovers, partners, and sufficient medical, financial and legal resources. (In particular, I am grateful to the Transgender Law Center, whose attorneys went to court for me in 2003 when I still lived in San Francisco.)
