Almost unbelievable — the executive director of San Diego Pride, was physically attacked this past weekend.
According to Rex Wockner’s blog entry Head of San Diego Pride attacked, beaten:
The executive director of San Diego LGBT Pride, Ron deHarte, was attacked and beaten June 6 while waiving a large rainbow flag on Main Street in the San Diego working-class suburb of Lemon Grove.DeHarte was participating in the “Equality Torch Relay,” a daylong effort that saw an “equality torch” travel through and from all 18 incorporated towns and cities in San Diego County, ending with a rendezvous of the torchbearers and others in downtown San Diego…

Just unbelievable that this happened in broad daylight when so many cameras were around.

Egads. The domestic terrorist and their sympathizers sure have become emboldened recently, haven’t they?
One advantage of living in AZI always pack heat when I march here
The pink Pistols could be onto something
…he was arrested.
I’m glad no one got hurtI also am big on defending ourselves in what ever manner works. Several people together is safer, karate or self defense classes, and being armed when necessary.
NO MORE Mr. nice Gay
Really?Honestly, if the “attack” is supposed to be what was represented in that video clip, I think there’s been a bit of exaggeration in the description. I didn’t see anyone get attacked or beaten. I saw a guy throw a kick, which didn’t even look like it made contact, and then the same guy briefly tried to rip the flag out of his hands. I don’t see any attack or beating.
Just one of these days I hope someone tries to rip a flag out of my hand. They make good bludgeoning devices!
I thought attack might have been too strong a termIt was difficult to determine if the kick to the flag pole hit his hand, the rest I’d describe as a scuffle over a flag, not that I wouldn’t have kicked the little thug back if it was my flag.
End of the AttackFrom what I have read on other blogs, the video only captured the end of the attack, as the gay guy tries to get away from the terrorist. There was more that happened before someone got it on film.
A few things…1. Both James Hartline and Allyson Smith, as well as other East County lowlifes, would support the assailant.
2. The East County folk don’t want the “homosexual agenda” being “shove down their throats”, but the real truth is that these hypocrites go to Hillcrest and try to shove their cowpies down the throats of the LGBT community.
Exactly…the blog stated that the attack lasted 90 seconds, only the tail-end of the attack was recorded.
thanks for clarifying attackI wondered if it took some time to get it on film
Where’s HRCand why aren’t they putting out a full-page ad detailing all of the anti-gay attacks since Prop 8?
If “christians” can do it, and can do it with nothing but half-truths and outright lies, why won’t HRC print the truth?
HRC continues to miss opportunities that would make them useful for once.
Same Here in TXAnyone even TRIES to attack me is toast.
If being a waste of flesh is all they have to do with their time, obviously nobody’ll miss ‘em.
My question is…Why didn’t he hit back? Anyone tries to do that to me, and they will have to duck MY FISTS. It’s high fucking time we started defending ourselves from these physical attacks. Gandhi’s dead, folks. These people are bullies, and the only way to deal with them is to bully them back. Period.
We should NOT take it for granted thatWe are safe anywhere
The christianist right is fomenting this type of violence, and as our cause gains more ground nationally, we can expect to see more of this
Thank YouSame here, Mindy.
I keep to myself and/or my group of people, and I don’t fuck with nobody unless they fuck with me first. Maybe because I’m taller than 6ft and not rail-thin is why it’s very rare that somebody messes with me LOL (it seems the anti-gays usually goes after the frail-looking gays).
But in the case that somebody DOES mess with me, I don’t play nice. And in TX, it’s not wise to mess with an armed queer.
I’m not too surprised this happened in Lemon Grove. If it was Santee instead, I would have been suprised if something like this didn’t happen (the local nicknamre for it is “Klantee”).
Legally, its called assaultassault
A crime that occurs when one person tries to physically harm another in a way that makes the person under attack feel immediately threatened. Actual physical contact is not necessary; threatening gestures that would alarm any reasonable person can constitute an assault. Compare to “battery”.
