From the Greeley Tribune‘s Sharron Dunn, in her piece From the Greeley Tribune‘s Sharron Dunn, in her piece Attorneys rest case in Andrade trial:
Both sets of attorneys rested their cases Tuesday and will present their closing arguments to the jury today.Attorneys started the morning with two jailhouse phone calls between Andrade, and his girlfriend, Felicia Mendoza.
In one portion of one of the calls, however, Andrade spontaneously says, “Gay things need to die.”
This is what we expect in today’s closing:
Public defenders have said Andrade reacted to a deception, while prosecutors stated he knew of Angie’s gender 36 hours prior to killing her. The pair met on a social networking Web site last summer and had more than 600 communications, mostly text messages and about 15 phone calls, prior to her death.
Summary of the trial’s details from Beth Karas, in a CNN video:

CNNGreat to see the coverage on CNN – this is progress, no? And also heartening to note that there was no seeming strain to appear as neutral as possible; when Beth described Angie’s injuries, the look on the anchor’s face was (justifiably) horrified.
It is disturbing, however, to note that the entire case hinges on when Andrade knew – as if that makes a difference, as if murder is a response that belongs in any rational person’s head. Oy, what a world.
I’m confused.I thought the ex-girlfriend’s name was Felicia Mendoza (as stated above the video. Who’s this Angie Tiree the reporter keeps mentioning? Are they the same person?
I think it’s definitely progress not only for them to cover this story, but also that the reporter herself refers to Angie as “she”.
TruTV (nee CourtTV today)I find the fill in discussions interesting. So far no one has tried to justify the abysmal defense use of incorrect pronouns and name and the defendent.
I have been sending in helpful information regarding what appears to be honest lack of knowledge.
Also, this morning my Pam is Running for Aurora City Council press release went out to the media.
CNN says “transgender trial”gee, i thought this was a murder trial. who is on trial here, and for what? i’m glad cnn is covering the story, but…
according to the cnn video, the jury isn’t being told that andrade has confessed and the details of that confession. why not?
EX-girlfriendFelicia is the current girlfriend.
Nope, they are two different people,Angie Tyree is the name of an ex-girlfriend that Andade was still living with. Angie Tyree and Andrade dated for a while, but they did break up. Andrade was then dating Felicia Mendoza who lived at home with her mother. Felicia was also the one who set up the MOCO Space accont for Andrade, which is the web site that Andrade found Angie Zapata.
As for the reporter referring to Angie as Female. They are following the guidelines set by the AP. But it does show progress.
I would like to know that, myselfHe’s gone to great lengths since then to establish himself as a hate-filled mofo of the first order…
I believe the closing statements will make or break the case. The prosecution needs to make the picture that Andrade knew before Murdering Angie crystal clear. One thing that jumps out at me is Angie had no marks of trying to defend her self. That all trauma was directed to the head.
The fact that Andrade admitted after Angie was down, he began to clean up. He then heard Angie sit up and he hit her again. He wanted her dead.
anxiousanxiously awaiting this guy getting sent up the river…
To me,the biased observer…Chief Deputy District Attorney Robb Miller did the job in his closing statement.
Yes he did, And the defense didn’t do the best job either:) Did anyone indicate how long they expect jury deliberations? I feel the quicker it is, the better for 1st degree.
