Autumn Sandeen shown with Chief District Attorney Robb Miller at Angie Zapata Hate Crime Murder Trial in Greeley ColoradoFrom the Greeley Tribune‘s Sharron Dunn, in her piece From the Greeley Tribune‘s Sharron Dunn, in her piece Attorneys rest case in Andrade trial:

Both sets of attorneys rested their cases Tuesday and will present their closing arguments to the jury today.

Attorneys started the morning with two jailhouse phone calls between Andrade, and his girlfriend, Felicia Mendoza.

In one portion of one of the calls, however, Andrade spontaneously says, “Gay things need to die.”

This is what we expect in today’s closing:

Public defenders have said Andrade reacted to a deception, while prosecutors stated he knew of Angie’s gender 36 hours prior to killing her. The pair met on a social networking Web site last summer and had more than 600 communications, mostly text messages and about 15 phone calls, prior to her death.
