The sad part about this is…That the CWA claim is common-sensically correct and they contribute to it.
The less any group has to lose and the more ostracized they are from society, the more the members of that group engage in risky behavior, suicide, and become victims of violent crime.
The DIRTY SECRET Concerned Women for America and the rest of the hate groups don’t want you to know is that their persecution of gay people increases the very factors that shorten gay men’s lives. If they were actually concerned about the life-span of gay men, they would be demanding equal rights for gay men, as well as the rest of the lgbt community, and all people who do not enjoy the same rights they enjoy.
So, it is no surprise that they would distort studies and lie to blame the victim. Phyllis Schlafly claims marital rape doesn’t exist. Many anti-gay hate groups tend to blame other victims as well, rape-victims being one of those groups.
They also rant against “illegal” aliens, blame poor people for their problems, and the list goes on from there.
They refuse to understand that acceptance, compassion, treating people with dignity and respect go a long way to improve the situations they decry because their real objective is to punish anyone who doesn’t obey the rules of behavior they prescribe for everyone else, but cannot follow themselves.
They are pathological. They are filled with shame and inadequacy because they cannot possibly live up to the their own behavioral rules, they attempt to relieve these feelings within themselves by forcing the rules upon others and claiming them unfit to live in society  even as they can’t and don’t follow their own rules.
When other people refuse to accept the validity of these rules and don’t even attempt to follow them, the fundies are outraged and feel persecuted — which only motivates them to work harder and lie more. It’s only a small step further to dragging people behind trucks, chaining them to fences, beating them with baseball bats, and bombing gay bars or abortion clinics.
If they didn’t have gay people to attack, they’d find someone else – undocumented immigrants or people who have different religious beliefs. Promoting fear and hatred of those-who-are-not-like-you is a powerful technique for getting your way. That’s exactly how the Nazi’s did it.
As far as I know, there are no white-supremacist groups that accept lgbt people. It’s exactly the same-thing.
It isn’t about getting people to do the correct thing. The fundies are bullies who will do anything and say anything to    get what they do not know how to get any other way: the power to force people to obey and respect them.
Studies show that comprehensive sex education, including condoms and birth control, not only reduces unwanted pregnancies, but also delays the onset of sexual activity among teens. Yet, these groups distort the studies and demand abstinence-only education.
Forcing their world-view on others is more important to them then reducing the number of abortions, solving any societal problems, or reducing human-suffering, becaue these tragedies are God’s punishment for not behaving the way CWA and other fundie bullies think we shou8ld behave.
If they could burn people at the stake and stone them, they would enthusiastically line up to light the fires and throw the first stone.
They ignore all of the studies on how to reduce drug-abuse and to reduce the HIV infection rate among drug-users.
They want to use U. S. economic and military power to impose their will upon others around the world or invade their countries and kill them.
They have a prescription for everything:
If people don’t behave the way we want them to behave they deserve punishment, imprisonment, and early deaths — and it is our job to make sure they get it.
Of course, they also want to eliminate separation of church and state, and have majoritarian rule where minorities have no civil rights or legal protection because they are delusional. Fundies actually think that if they can bully people into obeying them, that the people will wake-up, see the light, and be grateful for their “awakening” – also known as being “born-again”.
The only answer is for us to convince everyone else that equal rights for all are required for our country and our planet to live in peace and prosperity. When a sufficient majority supports equal rights for all, the fundies will either be pushed aside as victims of their own delusional demand for absolute majoritarian rule, or they will learn to get along with others.
Personally, I think it’s time for action.
I’d love to see street theater and other creative activities which simply ridicule CWA, Focus on the Family, and the other hate-groups. Laughing at them and ridiculing them will demoralize them more than anything else we can do.
Of course, there’s my friend’s fantasy, which I have adopted as my own. I’d like to buy the biggest factory in the U. S. which is the biggest employer in a fundamentalist area and which manufactures religious implements popular among fundamentalist Christians — and convert it to making sex-toys. It would also be fun to buy a Bible and hymnal publisher and switch to publishing pornographic novels.

While the prejudice spread by CWA and the rest of the Bigot Squad may shorten the lives of gay men, it’s nothing like to the extent that they claim our lives are shortened. CWA relies very heavily on the “studies” of Paul Cameron, who has been debunked so frequently and (in some cases) so thoroughly by the scientific community that I’m not sure I’d believe him if he told me Papa Ratty was a bigot.
Paul Cameron’s work is infamous for relying on massive distortion of data. In the case of the two studies relevant here, this is achieved by using data cherry-picked solely from the height of the AIDS crisis as “proof” that being gay is in and of itself critically harming to men’s lifespans. The older of the two “studies” was based on (I think) death rates for gay men in part of Canada in the 80s, and “proved” that gay men’s lifespans are about 20 years shorter than normal; unfortunately I don’t know much more about it.
The other more recent study, which Cameron co-authored with his son Kirk, was based on death rates for gay Danish men in Registered partnerships in the few years following their introduction in the late 80s, and attempted to prove that gay marriage also shortens men’s lifespans. Morten Frisch, a Danish epidemiologist, was asked to comment on the “study” last year by Warren Throckmorton, a former ex-gay proponent and increasingly-frequent debunker of ex-gay lies, especially those of Cameron. Frisch’s comment was that

[a]lthough the Camerons’ report has no objective scientific value, the authors should be acknowledged for providing teachers with a humorous example of agenda-driven, pseudo-scientific gobbledygook that will make lessons in elementary study design and scientific inference much more amusing for future epidemiology students.

However Frisch did not stop at a mere comment; Throckmorton summarised Frisch’s response as follows:

In this case, Dr. Frisch did more than critique the Camerons. He, along with colleague Henrik Brønnum-Hansen, conducted a study using the data from Denmark regarding married gays and straights. The study will be published in the January, 2009 edition of the American Journal of Public Health, but is being released today via the journal’s website. Dr. Frisch was kind enough to forward a copy which I summarize here.
Frisch and Brønnum-Hansen found that Danish men marrying soon after the Danish same-sex marriage law was enacted had markedly higher death rates than men in the general Danish population. They speculate that these men were ill, ordinarily with AIDS or AIDS related illnesses, but also from other life-threatening diseases, and wanted to marry to establish rights of survivorship or other benefits for a surviving spouse. However, the mortality for homosexual men marrying after 1996 is virtually the same as for heterosexual men in Denmark. Thus, since HIV/AIDS has been more successfully managed, the mortality rates have declined dramatically.
During the height of the AIDS crisis, life expectancies were understandably depressed. This study indicates that mortality has improved substantially.

So while its is possibly true that CWA’s hate could be leading to shortened lives for gay men, it is equally true that even then the CWA are still lying – because even with that much bile they’re not capable of shortening gay men’s lives that much. Much to their personal chagrin.

 You can google it as easy as I can post postscript proofs. Focus on the Family was in its infancy. James Dobson, a child psychologist and untrained “theologian”, a reactionary Right Wing Religionist, who opposed the APA and all associations worldwide, was its co-founder.
 Dobson needed “a hook”, and he found it with Robertson and Falwell, who hijacked Christianity and the Republican party simultaneously. “Godless Communism”, in the person of the People’s Republic of (aka, Commie Red) China, was now our major supplier of goods, and our principal deficit banker. They chose abortion and homosexuality as the new Satans.
 Despite the fact that many theocratic fascists had gay or lesbian offspring or grandchildren…..Schaffly…LaHaye…Cheney and Helms…. who work against themselves, and whether they believed it or not………..hundreds of millions of dollars, and a global jetsetting lifestyle was the gift created out of our rights and our very lives taken by violence or suicide.
 One of Dobson’s co-founders, a man never homophobic, apologized for FOF and Dobson ten years after its founding.
Dobson, of course, demonized him ad hominem. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

In fact, here’s a good one for you:
The fundies proof-text the studies for exactly the same reason they proof-text The Bible – to justify their bigotry.

My rather unclear point was that, to the extent gay men’s lives are shortened, it is the persecution that sets that up. Their proof-texting of the data has nothing to do with reality. And, of course their claims are exaggerated.
I’ll bet they also proof-text studies on immigration to claim that immigrants infect us with all kinds of diseases, too. And, don’t forget they’re the same one’s that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, so carbon-dating and evolution are wrong.
Is that maggot-infested elephant-turd Paul Cameron still around? I thought he’d gone to his reward in Hell long ago.

I missed that part. I was reading the article at 3AM and I thought the article was about the fundies twisting valid studies to satisfy their dastardly plans for the world. I didn’t realize Cameron was still at it with his fake studies.
He was thrown out of the American Psychological Association at least 25 years ago. Of course, he claims the APA is a front group for the gay agenda and wears his expulsion as a badge of honor.  

I’m sorry to say…that not only is Paul Cameron continuing to waste our planet’s precious oxygen, but he is also training his son in how to continue his work once he becomes something useful (like food for worms). I recommend you watch out for fairy-tales from Kirk Cameron in the future. I predict that with time they will become required reading for ethics students – in the “terrible warning” context, of course!
