Autumn covered the great news here. And Apple has not only donated $100K to fight hate, the California-based company is currently featuring a message to oppose Prop 8 on its web site.

Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Apple’s always been greatI was next to a group of GLBT Apple employees at the 1987 March on Washington. Their CEO at the time, John Scully, walked up completely unexpectedly and asked them if it was OK for him and his wife to march with them.
Half of the folks were in tears — a very nice moment in corporate history.
Yay!Makes me feel even better about my brand new iPod.
Wow, they’re for social justice.Sure makes a great commercial, doesn’t it?
I’ve always wanted a pink ipodnow I really feel compelled to buy one for so many reasons.. :-)
I have 4 Macs as it is now.
Being trans I support the fight against No on 8 and breast cancer awareness..
Thank you Apple!
I’m glad we cast our side as Mac in the commercialsThank You Apple
My next computer……will be a Mac.
And my Mac-hating husband can just go soak.
Awesome! Now I can feel even better about this new iMac I bought two months ago.
I worked for Apple from 1997 until laid off in 2002This makes me extremely proud to have worked for them. I now work for a Mac centric software company and own lots of Apple equipment.
I wonder when the wingnuts are going to call for a boycott?
Thank You AppleI was wavering in the direction of buying a Sony FW 200 series laptop because I use both PCs and Macs at home and work … but I’m going to go for the MBP now. I truly believe, even if we have to pay a small premium, that we need to support the companies that step out and support us. Thanks to everyone at Apple who made this possible.
Proud owner of an iPod Shuffle.1. Does anybody remember that legendary Macintosh commercial from 1984? We are like that woman with the sledgehammer.
2. I wonder if Bill Gates actively supports gay rights. That and the Apple support would set the fundies back a few hundred years.
