Here it is…yet another Sarah Palin self-immolation, via Katie Couric. She can’t name any Supreme Court cases.
COURIC: What other Supreme Court decisions [other than Roe v. Wade] do you disagree with?
PALIN: Well, let’s see. There’s — of course –in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings, that’s never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are–those issues, again, like Roe v Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know–going through the history of America, there would be others but…
COURIC: Can you think of any?
PALIN: Well, I could think of — of any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a Vice President, if I’m so privileged to serve, wouldn’t be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.
***
Compare that lunacy to Joe Biden’s response to a similar Couric question:
COURIC: Are there Supreme Court decisions you disagree with?
BIDEN: You know, I’m the guy who wrote the violence against women act and I said that every woman in America, if they are beaten and abused by a man, should be able to take that person to court, and meaning you should be able to go to federal court and sue in federal court the man who abused you if you can prove that abuse. But they said no, that a woman– there is no federal jurisdiction. And I held — they acknowledged I held about 1,000 hours of hearings proving that, that there’s an effect on interstate commerce. Women who are abused and beaten are women who are not able to be in the workforce. And the Supreme Court said, well there is an impact on commerce, but this is federalizing a private crime, and we’re not going to allow that. I think the Supreme Court is wrong about that decision.

does she understand that there are federal laws?by talking about things “being taken care of on a local level”, does she know that we have federal laws and a national constitution? if so, is she suggesting that we jettison them in favor of only local ordinances? sounds to me like she’s still got some “alaska first!” thoughts running behind her eyes.
what about a specific case?i think it would have been better if Couric had asked her about a specific case or two, and NOT Roe v Wade. maybe, like, Gore v Bush in 2000 or Brown v The Board of Education or LAWRENCE v TEXAS. that one would have been interesting…
was she only asked what decisions she disagrees with? Not to say her answer in any way is of the caliber of Biden’s but not being able to name a case other than Roe she disagrees with is very different than not being able to name any other SCOTUS case (we have been lambasting her for the latter, so it’s critical to know exactly what she was asked).
This being said, I don’t understand why anti-choicers think moving the decision to the state level vs federal level is acceptable considering their purported reason for wanting abortion to be criminalized. I mean, I understand their tactic but this is a completely inconsistent approach when it comes to a human (or zygote) rights issue.

She had an easy answer––right to hand, according to today’s WaPo:
So did she forget? Did she not know she was involved in the case? Was she ever really involved or was it all handled by her state’s AG? Why couldn’t she have at least read about it in an Alaskan newspaper since she reads everything?
LOL!Funny haiku, Kiera!

She didn’t want to remind Big Oil of her support of plaintiffs? That might be too sophisticated an explanation for not using that case, which sounds like an obvious one at first look – on the side of The Hardworking People Of Alaska – but offending Big Oil may not be a great way to win campaign bucks and may contradict McCain’s private agreements with lobbyists.
“debate to nowhere”……Letterman
These debates need slow motion instant replaysKinda like the AGONY of DEFEAT footage of ski jumpers who crash and roll in excrutiating Peckinpah slow motion with three broken limbs flailing.
